Looks great, holds just the right amountWhen I started backpack shopping, there were three main things I was looking for. I was looking for a bag that was water resistant (but not a dry bag), held a laptop, and looked good. The journeyman fit all three.
It's not huge but it's just big enough to carry around my 15 inch MacBook Pro with charger , a few notebooks, a couple large books, and my hat, gloves, and a first aid kit in the main compartment. I really like the zippered pouch on the inside. I use it to keep my pocket knife, flash light, hand sanitizer, gum, and other small things. In the back pouch I have a small point and shoot (Sony rx100), sunglasses in a case, and pair of large folding headphones. I don't always carry all that stuff around, but that's the max it can fit and about the max I'd really need in it. I think the size is just right. I wanted something I could carry to work without feeling I was on a 3 day backpacking trip.
It feels great on the back either partially or fully loaded. Since the straps are "belt like" they're not as quick to adjust as a normal backpack. However I think it's a good trade off because I like that once they're adjusted, they're not going to loosen up.
I haven't taken it out in a whole lot of rain yet, but for my short experiences, the weather proofing seems to hold up. Just make sure the flaps are in place. The only concern I have is that the back pouch flap is a little short and I worry that rain may leak in if I'm not careful.
Aside from the back pouch flap, the only complaint I have are the zippers. While they're nice heavy duty, they're also very scratchy. I ended scratching up my watch up digging around in the bag and now I'm very careful moving my laptop in and out. It would behoove Filson to switch to a more modern, water resistant, non scratchy zipper like what they use on camera bags. Main reasons I knocked a star off the review.

Very stylish backpack; great for workThis backpack is a great commuter backpack if you're looking for something functional, lightweight, durable, and stylish. I primarily walk to work (~2 miles one way) and even with my large work laptop, iPad, gym clothes, books, etc. in there, the straps stay comfortable. There is a padded laptop sleeve-pocket in the main compartment, as well as a couple other interior pockets. One of my critiques is the front pocket is very deep, but the flap closure could bear to be taller -- because if the front pocket gets stuffed, the flap doesn't sit flat against the bag once you've snapped it closed, and it looks a little vulnerable to pickpocketing. The color is a little more Mustard in person than you'll see in the photo (according to my girlfriend who's a designer), but pretty accurate and we both love the color of this pack. The last critique (which is why it's a 4/5 and not a 5-star) is that the zippers, while very high-quality and with leather pulls, are less smooth than ideal.
