No MistakeThe first generation of these pants has walked to 18,000+ and floated down a tributary of the Amazon in Ecuador, Phantom Ranch, and the John Muir Trail. And around the block, many a time. They are finally showing signs of wear and tear, and I shall retire them soon. That was my first two pair. It took me a while to get used to losing the left hip pocket for a better right thigh pocket with the velcro gadgit pocket in the new model, but I'm a believer now. Totally functional, I've gone from using these as travel/backpacking clothes to daily wear. There's another Ex Officio pant that moves closer to casual office. But that's another review.

Favorite travel pants everMy wife and I were just chatting this morning about how much I love these pants and she reminded me that our fellow travelers (to Africa) also loved them. They're light, incredibly comfortable and stylish enough to be worn to museums or dinner (unless the restaurant is waaaaay upscale). They dry amazingly quickly and they are so comfortable and light that I use them for tai chi class. Maybe not the pants for winter on the east coast, but for travel or living in a warm climate, they're wonderful. An unhesitating recommendation (so unhesitating that I'm going out of my way to find this website just to recommend them).

The New Style - A MessEx Officio generally has excellent products. I have worn the Nomad pant for years, purchasing a dozen or so, for both travel and casual wear - used to be a great design. Now they changed styles - best to avoid for the following reasons: 1) rise is cut shorter; (2) phone drop in pocket on right leg made awkward size; (3) no longer a zipper pocket on right leg; (4) silly pocket on left leg; and (5) front pocket stitching a ridiculous curvi-linear pattern.
This is unfortunate - to find a well designed product totally ruined. Hopefully Ex Officio will go back to the original design.

This used to be my favorite travel pant until this year's redesignIf I didn't know better I'd probably like this pant but I have several pairs of the old design. I miss the old style button cord that held the button. The new one is just stitched on and fell off the first time I wore them...maybe just a fluke but the old style was really strong. I also miss the rear left pocket. I'm not European and use both pockets. Function is more important than style when I travel abroad. Lastly the new cut required I order two sizes when I used to get by with one that expanded and contracted as I ate (or fasted) my way through my journeys. Still a great pant. Dries quickly, is stain resistant and comfortable when riding for long hours on rough roads. Please bring back the old style and I'll buy 10 pair:)

Nomad pantsJust ordered the Breen Nomad pants--great color ( a nice change from the khaki and other light colors). I wore the khaki color abroad for two months and they were a terrific everyday pair of trousers--light, non-chafing, well-styled, great fitting. Wish they were a little less expensive and had vertical side pockets for easier access and security. But as is, these were ideal for all but the most formal occasions--I wore them with a blazer and tie as well as for hiking. Despite the light weight, they are also comfortable in chilly, windy conditions.

Pocket locationfor some reason ex officio now puts the zippered, secure pocket on the front right leg vs what they used to do...putting the pocket on the left leg. i think this is a mistake since most people are right handed, so most of their stuff is already in their right pocket. by adding the secure pocket on the right side, all the weight of stuff in the pants is on the right side. it was much better having the zippered pocket on the left leg...therefore keeping the weight balanced. i am very glad they are making the longer length again.

Great for GolfI hate pants. At 45 degrees shorts are a little too cool for the golf course. Nomad pants are the closest thing I have found to wearing shorts. No binding, don't feel dragged down with a bunch of material, and they repel casual water easily. I am not constantly pulling my pants up where they belong. Due to the light weight and a reasonable belt they stay where they belong so I can concentrate on whacking my golf ball out of the rough where I seem to spend most of my time. And best of all they look really good too. Seriously!

Nice Except for the ColorVery nice pants, except I don't care for the color of the Lt Khaki. It's fairly dark with a yellow tint, and the stitching is a contrasting dark brown. It's difficult to find any shirts that look good with these pants. I've owned several pairs of similar pants from Ex Officio and much prefer the color of those pants. The pants are otherwise very nice: very lightweight and (assuming that they're similar to my old pants) should be very durable; much more durable than would be expected for such a lightweight pant.
