DECENT FEATURES of the Eagle Creek TSA Travel Safe Lock
The instructions for setting a combination were unclear, and apparently once set you cannot reset. One of the locks was completely inoperable after setting a combination. And by "inoperable," I mean it wouldn't lock.
I buy this type of lock all the time, though this was the first time buying an Eagle Creek brand. I bought 2 and both of them did not set properly. Now I can't open or close either one. I had to go out and buy new ones. . .a different brand of course. The company does not stand behind their product either. When I called at one time I was told to send the locks back and they would open them there. I was too busy traveling to do so at the time. Now they tell me they can't be reset and I'm out of luck. HORRIBLE customer service. Money thrown down the drain. DO NOT BUY.
"Great lock, sturdy, blends in with the crowd, easy to use"

Got this lock to use in hostel lockers, works well. TSA approved, blends in with everything else so your locker doesn't stick out over others. Recommended!
"Great lock that will keep your stuff secure"

TSA can still open your suitcase and raid it but it will keep your gear a little more securer than just zipping it closed and calling it good. Seriously just don't lose your bag, and don't leave your stuff alone and you'll be okay.
Esental for any climber that travels. People in the Hindu Kush, Karakoram or the Andes dont make a lot of money, so your 5000 in kit is very valuable....for that matter its very valuable in the US too. Well, the bottom line is, this 10 piece of gear could save you thousands. oh, and the security guys wont chop it off either.
"Good basic lock, keep an extra with a bigger loop in case."

Used this lock on a Eurotrip and while it does suffice for locking and is very handy, there was only one time it failed to do its duty and that was on a locker in a hostel. The metal loop is too thin compared to other locks and the locker was able to be opened even with the lock on it.
Useful. These locks won't stop a hardcore theif, but they keep your stuff from being easily rummaged through by strangers with impure thoughts - Being TSA accessible, I hope when I fly later this year I won't be delayed if any of the gear in my checked pack causes concern for some screener or baggage handler. I don't know this for sure, but regardless, they serve a good purpose and I like the colors!
