Deuter Alpine Back System
Deuter’s Alpine Back System focuses on a compact, secure yet comfortable fit with
its two flexible softstripe back pads that are perfectly adapted to
the anatomy and follow the wearer’s movements. In combination
with the pack’s sleek shape this keeps the load close to the center
of gravity – thus guaranteeing full pack control and full focus on
the terrain. Further, the smart air channel between the two stripes
grants excellent ventilation.
The system combines a secure, compact fit with a top carry-
ing performance and comfortable ventilation between the
two softstripe back pads.
Deuter Airstripes System
Deuter’s Airstripes System consists of two
contoured, air-channelled foam profiles that are covered with a
highly breathable Wide AirMesh lining. The reduced contact surface
results in optimized fresh air circulation. The channel between
the pads further enhances ventilation and provides great freedom
of movement in the riding position. Also, the pack’s load is kept
close to the body and thus won’t throw the rider off balance. On
our bigger bike models, the clever Auto-Compress hip belt system
adds extra stability: the close set anchor points of the wings
provide a super tight, compact fit. The Pull-Forward strap system
automatically results in side compression – a precise and easy way
to adjust the pack. The minimal contact surface area of the profiled Airstripes
allows free air circulation over 80 % of the riders back, while
still providing a secure, compact fit even on rough rides.

Great multipurpose backpackI bought this backpack after much agonizing. I needed a backpack that would serve as a bicycle commute bag. After straining my neck on way too many poorly designed school backpacks, I knew I wanted a hiking type backpack with a proper hipbelt in order to transfer weight to my hips. My often soaked and soggy textbooks also dictated a need for a rain cover. I ended up getting this bag, because it was marketed for both biking and hiking. It is panel loading which makes it much easier to load and unload my things. The separated design also allows me to store books and binders in the top compartment and charging cords and other random bits in the bottom and my laptop goes in the. I've found this bag very well constructed and designed. The contoured shoulder straps and the padded back proved very comfortable. The only caveat is that the hip belts seem more for load stability than weight bearing, and the hip pockets are too small and inaccessible to be truly useful.
