I bought this backpack after much agonizing. I needed a backpack that would serve as a bicycle commute bag. After straining my neck on way too many poorly designed school backpacks, I knew I wanted a hiking type backpack with a proper hipbelt in order to transfer weight to my hips. My often soaked and soggy textbooks also dictated a need for a rain cover. I ended up getting this bag, because it was marketed for both biking and hiking. It is panel loading which makes it much easier to load and unload my things. The separated design also allows me to store books and binders in the top compartment and charging cords and other random bits in the bottom and my laptop goes in the. I've found this bag very well constructed and designed. The contoured shoulder straps and the padded back proved very comfortable. The only caveat is that the hip belts seem more for load stability than weight bearing, and the hip pockets are too small and inaccessible to be truly useful.
