Moosejaw Staff Pick "I LOVE the Chaco Z/2 Unaweep sandals. They have the sole of a sturdy hiking boot and more arch support than most footwear. My feet feel super secure with the toe loop and I can run, hike, play, swim, and dance with confidence when they are on my feet. I will be sporting them most of the summer while at work or play!" I have a pair of these going on 4 years old! Same strap and all! Extremely comfortable with great arch support and tread like a hiking boot! I wear them every day in the late spring through mid fall pretty much. With the toe strap I often leave the top loose when wearing them around casually and have no issue with them falling off. With a quick synch of the straps I can take off running or feel a little sturdier on a rough trail. When you first buy them and try them on it can take a bit to get the straps adjusted exactly to your foot. Once you do though they are like a glove.
The Toe strap is a nice feature, because it provides extra security for hiking, and keeps your foot closer to the shoe so stuff doesn't get in. If you feel like wearing socks with these, just fold the toe strap down and you instantly get that bad-ass socks-with-chacos look that we all desire so badly. It really is very comfy though... This version of the chaco is much nicer than the new kind with plastic that rubs on your ankle. Give these guys a little time to break in, but once you have some callus' built up, you'll never want to take these off.
Don't get me wrong, I love these shoes, but I was disappointed when the sole pealed off in the middle of my climbing trip this summer with less than a year of use. However, if you send them in (on your own dime) they will fix it for free. They also did it in a timely manner.
I have owned these sandals for about 5 years. They are without a doubt the most comfortable, durable and most supportive sandals I have ever owned. The internal strap adjustment system is very effective. It does take some time to get the straps adjusted to the correct settings, but once they are there, they will stay to where you want them without slipping in and out of comfort. The Vibram soles are very durable and don't wear as fast as the soles from other similar sandals that I've had in the past. When considering how long these sandals have lasted and the life that's still in them, there's no doubt in my mind that they are worth the price.
I've had my Chacos for 5 or so years and they just keep truckin'. I've kicked sea-urchins, picked bramble out of them, braked my long board with them, stopped doors with them, and over-all beat 'em up, and they just keep giving. Takes some getting used to and fine-tuning twith the fit, but beat the crud out of most sandals. I wouldn't recommend hiking great distances in them, but they are sturdy enough for water crossings.
It doesn't matter what I'm up to, if I'm not working, I bring these along. Even with my constant usage of these shoes, I have only owned two pairs in ten years. The strap near my toe finally began to wither away, so I got a new pair, and decided to try the toe loop out. Man oh man did that change the game. It is an absolute must. Some complain that it gives them a rash. That's what happens when you introduce fabric to an area not used to it. That's why innovation sometimes takes a while to catch on. It adds so much control and confidence. Hike in them, swim in them, run in them, live in them. Best shoes I've ever owned by a long shot.
"Must come with me on every outdoors adventure"
These are an essential for me on any outdoor adventure. Even if it is freezing cold. Gives support and traction like a hiking boot, with the comfort and ease of sandals. I chose the toe loop version because while swimming the non-toe loop Chaco flaps around in the water and I don't like that. My ONLY complaint is that the small black strap that hangs loose past the buckle is a bit long and can drag. Not a huge deal at all considering all the other pros of Chacos, but I know it didn't do this in the past. I would still recommend this to anyone looking for a water shoe that can also be used for hiking, walking, climbing, camping, swimming, etc.
Great for hiking where stream crossing is involved. Good camp shoes. better than tevas, because they have a boot sole basically. with vibram lugged out sole. webbing gets comfortable over time. I don't know i didn't need to break them in. just mess with the webbing for a while. uhm... did I mention they're comfortable? aaand the toe loop is nice.
This shoes have become very trendy and exceptionally popular in the past few years, but they are still awesome shoes. They are perfect for both physical activities, such as hiking and canoeing, and casual activities, such as going to the mall and chilling at home. I would recommend these to anyone looking for a stylish and comfortable accessory.
