They'll take you anywhere...I bought these sandals because my girlfriend had a pair and couldn't stop talking about them so I thought "I'll give them a shot!" Upon receiving them, I have gone through almost every terrain with them (sand, dirt, water, mud, and haven't tried snow yet...not sure if I will get to that)! The thick sole makes it a really great hiking sandal and they are super easy to throw on, take off, and adjust. I'm a size 10.5 and tried on an 11 and it was way too big and then tried on a 10 and I felt like a manly Cinderella! Make sure to order down if you are a half size. I wish I could wear them all the time but I think they are frowned upon in dental offices and weddings.

Z/1 sandals is best sandals!I wear sandals almost every day from May-Oct, am M ~230lb, and got tired of destroying and replacing my sandals every year via delaminated and crushed soles. I bought a pair of Z/1's about 5 years ago, and they have held up comfortably. In fact, I only bought a new pair this summer because the old tread has worn down so much that I slip sometimes when it's wet; old pair is still in service for gardening/mucking around the yard. I see Z/1's as the 'high-end mountaineering boots' of the sandal market - sure they are heavier and more expensive than other models, but they will last for years and provide superior comfort and foot protection, even to the point of hiking over sharp rocks. The toe edge can catch on stairs/roots/etc sometimes if the straps are loose, but you can prevent this by a) making sure the straps are properly adjusted, and b) learning some self-awareness and not tripping. I give my Z/1's a quick clean every month or 2 to prevent dirt and odour build-up, and the non-porous footbed makes this very easy.
