Product Description Item No.   10037314

Our drive and desire to pioneer a line of rugged power sources led to the introduction of the first flexible solar panel, the SolarRoll by Brunton. Since then, the evolution of this concept has flourished. Backed by glowing reviews in every major magazine and newspaper in this country and others, the SolarRoll has officially taken its place as one of our most talked about products. The proof, though, is in the remarkable performance. The waterproof SolarRoll has given sea kayakers the power to photograph their voyages from the far reaches of the planet. And next spring, it will assist Ed Viesturs in his final summit, Annapurna, as he polishes off the last peak of Endeavor 8000. Ideal for powering satellite phones, members of expeditions worldwide pack the SolarRoll in place of expensive extra batteries that don't offer much relief in the form of weight. We realize however, that not everyone is defying the ordinary. Some of us simply need the SolarRoll for charging our car battery or running our video camera. With this in mind, we're offering alternative sizes and outputs this year to accommodate the growing demand for our most popular solar panel.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Smaller size useable...but not good The only reason I would get a charger like this would be to charge my cell, camera and computer while abroad. It took foreeeeever to charge my camera and I couldnt actually charge my laptop @ all for the rate I was using it (aka the charger was in forever and it didn't go up in % at all). It was Ok for my super ghetto old cellphone though (which is something...can't speak for smartphones. Also, I'm not a big fan of how you have to use a car charger adapter simply to charge anything.,,,,So it does work...but is it worth the 300$? Not so much IMHO,,

Rated 4 out of 5 by from good for trickle charge for 12v systems if you need more than 625 mA then you need to string two or three of these together. If you want to charge USB (5V) then check the minimal mA output you need for your device. Typically 500 mA is for puny batteries and most robust batteries need about 2000 mA at 5V. I summer on a canadian island and charge my 12V system with this in a constrant manner. Three of these even on short sun days keep my system up and running and then I plug my 12V to 5V USB power convertors (typical car chargers) into the battery which has plenty of mA to charge my devices. Laptops need a robust charger and you should be able to figure out how many mA you will need to get the job done. These are durable, lay flat when warm, good even not in direct sun. Its hard to figure out at first which brunton will work for you. they have great customer support.

What type adapter is needed to convert the output from a SolarRoll 9 watt to a 5 volt USB connector for use with my GPS and a Kindle Fire HD?

Asked by: WOLFMANN
Hey there, Thanks for reaching out to us! For this, your best bet will be to invest in a cigarette lighter/USB adapter. One of the cable ends is a female cigarette lighters, so any converter will work fine with that. Hope that helped you out.
