"Brunton make the best stuff!" 11/08/07
will look great under the christmas tree. can't wait till next orienteering season a little dangerous this time of year with the hunter's out and about. I have been looking for a compass that combined the great circle over circle with the distance sighting. Looks like a perfect marriage.
"This is the best, most versatile compass for the money." 09/05/06
For my money, there is no better all-around compass on the market. I use this Pro 8099 to survey streams, and for orienteering. I have used the Silva Ranger compass, which I also like, but this Brunton is better armored and can easily take some abuse, like being stuffed loosely into my pack with a lot of other gear. Declination is very easy to set, and lining up the circles when sighting seems a little easier on this compass than lining up the linear marks on a lot of other models.
"Might Replace GPS" 06/27/06
I bought the Brunton compass for use in kayaking on Lake Ouachita, Arkansas's biggest lake. The compass has so many great features I am almost tempted to ditch my GPS unit. In fact, the Brunton is so comprehensive I had to get a handbook to take advantage of all the great things the Brunton can do. I love it.
"Wouldn't go into the wilderness without it!" 05/26/06
A great compass, everything you'd need to navigate yourself around anywhere. I particularly like the way it has a list of all tan and sin functions for degrees 0 to 45, as well as the math equations needed to determine trail distances and object heights, it makes it a bit easier to determine distances.
