"great compass"  11/27/11

used this compass in a winter adventure race, all the features worked as described. The compass saved tons of time over "lesser" one lacking some of the many features. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is seriously into compass and map travel.

"this one seems to be lower rent"  11/29/10

I've had a Brunton 8097 (discontinued) for years now and have loved it as its aged well. I may be wrong but the 8096 just doesn't appear to have the same build quality. The markings are blurred and don't appear that they'll be able to hold up like the 8097. On the other hand, these compasses are very accurate and have an easy to use arrow and easy to adjust declination.

"AR Must"  03/18/10

This compass, is an Adventure Racing must have. Although I feel the word compass, does not fully encompass its awesomeness. Allows you to plot points and measure distance with speed and accuracy. While it may not guarantee you a place at the finish, you will at least know where the finish is.

"Built for Adventure racing"  11/03/09

Being able to quickly tell your bearing is key in a Race and with the UTM plotter built on I don't have to worry about dropping my plotter... I've lost every one I've brought to a race. the bezel can be popped out for cleaning as you might get some dirt in there after awhile and I would recommend adding a piece of to the bottom of the compass to make sure the UTM grid numbers don't get scratched off.

"Good compass"  09/09/09

Use this compass for adventure racing and it is pretty useful. for the most part any compass will do for an adventure race, but I would strongly recommend getting one with declination adjustment. This is not found in cheap compasses and will save you much time. Also, this compass tends to be pretty steady while using on the fly which is nice as well. Also, the UTM coordinates built into the compass proved to be pretty useful and saved time while racing. They are not absolutely necessary though cause you usually have a UTM tool with your racing map.

"The friggin coolest compass ever!!!"  06/18/09

I'm an experienced outdoorsman, adventurer, orienteer and my beautiful bride is not. When we first started going into the backcountry I eased her in gently and got her hooked on geo-caching. She's the sort that likes gadgets. As we went further and our trekking has become more advanced she asked if there's a way to also use map and compass... Yay - hooked!!! This bad-ass compass is fantastic because it is super easy to use (esp the declination on the back). The on-board tools are sweet and it makes using a map and compass fun again!Way to go on this one!

"Best compass there is for adventure racing"  05/26/09

I have been using this compass for about 1.5 years and I love it. I have used many different compasses for adventure racing and this is the best one. The needle sets really quickly, which is a huge plus when running through the woods and the built in UTM tool is great because that means you have one less thing to carry. The adjustable declination is also great because that takes out human error of figuring it out when sleep deprived. It is great for spring or multi-day races. Buy this compass!

"Great compass for adventure racing"  07/08/08

Circle-in-Circle makes navigating on the fly easy. You'll always have your utm tool with you for adventure races. And it's easy to adjust the declination it doesn't recquire a tool to do so.

"It's got lots on very little letters and numbers!"  12/10/07

Works great as a race compass, able to keep it active in your hand while running and land nav. However ours keeps falling in the mud and dirt with the racer and dirt and grit got up under the bezel and started wearing off the numbers before I realized you could tear it apart and clean it.

"Good starting point for orienteers"  11/08/07

okay, so a compass is a compass, but Brunton must actually use this stuff they design. The Circle over circle works great in orienteering. It is handy to have the measurement scales to convert the space between points to distance to be traveled.
