"Building up a rack." 12/13/11
Finally got to use these after ordering them a month ago and must say, I like the options they give me. Between these, some stoppers, and a few tricams, I never placed a cam on my first 3 climbs leading on gear. There's something nice about finding that spot where both sides snug into the crack you know it's not going anywhere.
"Basic trad Rack" 10/23/11
Every traditiona trad climbers should have one set of this hexes, are very useful when you want to have a light rack, this hexes can reduce the number of equipment you carry in your rack because of its three different widths, this means that carryng one Hexe is like carryng three different Chockstone sizes with you. The Hexes also are very usefull in sections where the crack opens wide where the cams can not feet in.

These hexes are solid and well made, which is what you'd expect from Black Diamond. I've taken falls on jut about every size and they have help up. They are easy to place and remove. I know it's just a mental thing but I prefer hexes to stoppers whenever I can.

These things work very well for a multitude of uses. They can be used as lightweight alternatives to cams in the alpine realm and cheap bail pieces, they can be used by the novice to get a few extra pieces on the rack for cheap, and nothing feels more solid than a bomber hex! I cary a few of the larger sizes (blue gold red) on nearly every climb.

I started my rack with a set of nets & hexes. The bigger hexes allowed me to climb my first routes without cams. I've used them a lot when building anchors too & would recommend the bigger sizes for anyone. I racked the smaller sizes in the beginning, but never placed them (used nuts instead). For the price, I'll be using them all the time. Climb on!

Used these for the first time on an off width and was blown away by how bomber they are. I got to the top of the face and realized I had only set two cams. The rest were all hexes. People may complain how clunky they are and how hard they are to set, but especially in an off width crack, they are priceless. It's really nice to set a piece of pro, and know that it's bomber enough to catch a school bus. Okay maybe not a school bus, but maybe a small SUV...

Hexentric nuts are great and plenty of opportunities to use them in the many trad and sports routes here in Arizona. This will be my second set. Some say they are not easy to place, but I have had no problems with how long it takes to place the protection. A little practice and you too can place hexentric quickly.
