"If you are going to go ultra light and cover a lot of ground fast, you need a pair a poles that can keep up. The Black Diamond Ultra Distance Trekking Poles can do just that if not make you faster. The entire Ultra Distance line is solid, but these are the best by far. They are the lightest I have ever used, and I can get them to extend the full length with one hand, which can make you look BA on the trail. Because there are no flick locks or twist locks to adjust, there is practically no field maintenance and as long as you get the size you need, they will always be the right height."

"Re-Review - Still the Greatest Poles Ever"  04/01/12

I just bought a pair of these poles as a gift for my fiance' after owning my own for about a year. I've put hundreds and hundreds of miles on these poles and they're as sturdy as the day I bought them. I was confused reading other comments about a lack of durability. In my experience these are great. In fact, I consider these my most important piece of gear after my backpack.

"Low weight isn't everything"  02/23/12

The lightweight, folding nature of these poles compromises their durability to an extent that they didn't work for me. I am not a huge individual (160#), and I typically carry a pack of 20-30#. I went through three sets in six months, each set having one pole fail (carbon fiber or metal broken near upper joint) after 15-35 miles. BD was very good about replacements, but this model just isn’t tough. I'm not sure what use these were intended for, but obviously they're not up to moderate weight on steep, mountainous trails. The BD Alpine Carbon Cork, while heavier, has proved to be much more robust, and has handles that don't leave your hands stained black, to boot!

"These things are so light you'll forget you have them..."  02/15/12

...until you realize that your knees aren't exploding after a day of 25miles on the trail. These things are the lightest, break down to the smallest, and deploy the easiest. Some people I know don't like to use poles because of the extra weight, but that argument doesn't hold water when it comes to these.

"lightweight and strong."  09/16/11

these poles are great. they are super lightweight and very strong. make sure you get the right size as these are non adjustable. also i wish they had a little bit more ergonomic/angled handle like some of the more expensive (heavier) models do. also i wished that the foam went down a little further so that I could place my hands a little lower on steep climbs. they are fast to pull out and set up, and just as fast to take down. they pack up small so you can bring them on any distance of hike. great buy, only minor flaws, I'm happy with them

"The best poles ever made"  07/26/11

These are the best poles ever made. They are so light that you won't feel them in your hands and the metal tips grab ground to get you up and down hills easily. A buddy bought a pair before hitting the Porcupine Mnts with me. After borrowing them for 10 minutes, I had second thoughts of giving them back. As soon as we got home I ditched my standard, collapsible poles for these and never looked back. Kevlar cord will ensure they never break. Only advice is to pick the right size as they are not adjustable (but this means less parts that could break). These poles will make your hike easier.

"I just got these..."  04/06/11

These are my first pair of trekking poles ever. I've barely used them but I'm blown away at how strong and light these are. Comfortable and Light. My only cons are that I'm going to have to find some way to extend to accomadate my pyramid style tent.
