The Tripod Bivy by Black Diamond is made for comfortable bivying in harsh alpine environments, the freestanding design bridges the gab between a bivy sack and a one-person tent. The three Easton aluminum poles lift the bivouac sack away from your head and feet. It's built from waterproof, windproof and breathable ToddTex with a polyurethane-laminated bathtub floor, and all seams are sewn with heavy duty nylon and factory taped. The Tripod has a large zippered entry with a sizable no-see-um mesh panel to keep the critters out and allow the fresh air in. Stuff sack included.

"Perfect"  01/05/12

Packs down small and is a breeze to set up quick. I pack light and this fits my 50 pack just fine. Size about right for weight and concept. Fits my mattress and bag fine and not too cramped. Material is tough although I bought a footprint to spread out. Upper end is free standing but foot is better staked out for more room.

"Very Great Bivy"  08/15/11

This Bivy was my ticket on my Alps excursion and on my numerous trips to Chile. It's an extremely waterproof bivy, very good circulation as well. Durable as can be. It can feel a little small when it is all zipped up, but all in all it's a wonderful buy.

"Dry bag 'in a pinch'."  12/18/09

I have used this in -10F on Mt Lassen, been in torrential downpours on the Lost Coast, and dug out of a foot of fresh powder in the Trinity Alps, and always been warm and dry. However I was truly impressed this fall on a multi-day, self supported kayak on the Rogue River. I took a nasty swim the second day on the water, later that day as we stopped and set up camp, I discovered the dry bag containing my extra clothes and sleeping bag and Bivy had leaked... Luckily I had put everything in the Bivy and zipped it up before putting it in the dry bag, and all my sleeping stuff was bone dry.

"Good space, keeps the wind out."  12/02/09

I used this a bunch of times on backpacking trips, camping, on the beach, ect. I like it a lot because it has great room for extra blankets and bulk to keep you warm. The material is durable and keeps the wind out almost completely. It's super lightweight and packs well.

"Almost Like a Tent"  03/26/09

Used this bivy after a huge end of the night season party. I can say that the next time I use it I won't forget the stakes. All in all though it held up when the temperature dipped below 20 degrees. There was a little bit of frost/ condensation on the inside but that seems to happen in all bivy sacks that I have used.

"Here's what I think"  03/21/09

WHAT I LIKE:Wind and waterproofExtra room in the vestibule area; both height and width when compared to other bivy sacks.DurabilityWeight savings verses a tent.WHAT I DON'T LIKE:Entry and exiting can be difficult.Initial set up when new.WHAT I WOULD CHANGE:Lengthen the zipper.

"Weathertight"  07/04/08

I hadn't slept in a bivy sack in ten years, then I purchased the BD tripod Bivy, and I used it for the first time this last weekend. It handled a heavy rain and some breeze easily, watertight all around. Ample length, but a bit tight around the middle making it a bit uncomfortable for reading when it's closed up. I would recommend using a water resistant sleeping bag with this bivy. I had my bivy almost closed up due to the cold and rain and had a bit of a condensation problem in the morning. Next time, I'll take that into account when selecting equiipment for a trip. Besides a bit of a condensation problem, it seems to be very well built, completely waterproof, bug proof, and a lightw
