"Excellent Trekking Poles" 10/20/11
These poles are much better than those from Leki. The Flicklock system is failproof and will never slip, unlike the Leki twistlock system. In my experience, the shock absorbing pads are also extremely useful. My friend has a pair of BD Trail (without the shock absorbing pads) and after a few hours the difference is tremendous. The shock pads really help your elbows to cushion the impact. Do your knees and elbows a favour and get these!
"Can't live without 'em!" 03/14/11
I've never been a big fan of trekking poles, but my friend talked me into this pair of Black Diamonds. All I can say is "WOW". From helping me keep an upbeat pace, to managing those tricky footings along rocky, sometimes slippery, trails, this product has moved from a "want" to a "can't live without" catagory.
"Very good value" 01/27/11
Surely there are some hiking poles out there that are lighter, stronger, and more durable, but you are going to pay quite a bit more for those top of the line poles. If you want to save money, these are an excellent value. I like the FlikLock system that is easy to adjust on the go, and the extended grips are a big plus. Sometimes you want to change up your grip and adjust hand position, and extended grips allow you to do that. When my hands start to sweat these do a pretty good job of absorbing and dissipating. That was one concern with buying cork grips or cheaper foam grips.
"Great Trekking poles...easy on the wrists!" 01/20/11
Picked these up to replace an OLD pair of ski poles (yeah, I know, I'm that guy) that I had used for years as trekking poles. Man, what a difference technology and a little bit of elastomeric rubber makes! After taking these out on a few test hikes I can say that they are lightyears better than my old poles....of course, I guess most standard sticks would fall into that category too, but these do make my wrists happy, and that is important...at least to me.
"I'll Never Trek Without 'Em Again" 12/26/10
I recently went to Africa for a nine-day trek of Kilimanjaro, and decided to rent a pair of poles there rather than pack these for the trip. Big mistake. The pair I rented collapsed on me 15 minutes into the trek, and thoroughly regretted not bringing these. I have used them on several 14ers, and they have been great. Never once have they collapsed, bent or failed, and they've saved me from falling on my can more times than I can count (I am not the world's most graceful hiker/climber). I will never again go on a hike with any substantial elevation gain/loss without them.
"Definitely better than picking a "walking stick" out of the woods..." 11/21/10
Seriously, these are great. They are light and the grips are comfy, no blisters. Makes the downhills much easier on the knees! Got a pair for me and hubby. He took me on a nice 7 miler...described to me as a gentle climb, he lied. I'll admit at one point I threatened bodily harm with the trekking poles and they'd be useful for that too, he walks faster than me so he was safe :)
