"A Durable Compromise"  09/12/11

Light weight helmets with a foam core have the pesky habit of needing to be retired after a big knock. This isn't always feasable when you're 10 pitches up and that's where the tracer comes in. It's got one of the thickest shells of it's class and that could mean the difference when that gully starts throwing rocks on you after lunch. it fits my big head well and adjusts easily. Can secure a small headlamp with 4 clips, but a big heavy one tends to sag a little Mesh covered vents keep the scree out too. It's not for regular heavy duty use unless you like buying them a lot. But it really is a dream to climb in being so comfortable.

"Lightweight and easily adjustable"  04/26/10

I was trying to decide between the Petzl Meteor and this helmet. I choose the Tracer because it didn't look awkward on my head and had an adjustment dial that was easy to use one handed. Plus, it was less expensive for pretty much the same helmet.

"Light climbing helmet"  05/26/09

I tried almost all the other helmets on the US market and this one fit me the best. Fit is probably the most important thing when it comes to helmets, so try it on if at all possible. This one is not as round as other models, but more oblong: the way my head is. It's not for ice climbing and it's not for taking repeated hits, but you'll hardly feel it when it's on. I wore this in Yosemite when it hit 100-degrees and it was cooler than hair. You'll like it too. I wish it had a better mounting system for single-strap headlamps so that they wouldn't slip down if they didn't have one strap that goes over the top of the helmet, but what can you do?

"Excellent product..easy adjustments"  04/08/09

In most cases a helmet is a hemet. They're ugly and a pain when climbing. Not true with the Black Diamond Tracer. The easy sizing feature (a small dial on the bcak of the head strap) makes this helmet very easy to adjust. Even if yuo're using a headband or bandana underneath you can simpley adjust to fit you headgrear. It helps that the colors are good. And I didn't look too dorkish with it on.There are holes in the side of the helmet help on the days that the sun is trying to bake your brains. All in all an excellent purchase.

"light and stylish"  03/18/09

The helmet is very light, and looks better than some. It should protect well against falls. However, it is not very comfortable. I have worn cheap bicycle helmets that are more comfortable. I much prefer the chin strap on the petzl helmets. After one use the twist adjustment doesn't work properly.

"Fat melon for a head? This is the only size large helmet made for you!"  06/05/08

Got a BIG head? I do...measures in at 24.75 inches around. This helmet sizing says Large 59-63 cm 23-25 in, and is quite comfortable. Other brands of helmets that claim to fit up to 25 inches were no where near as comfortable as this one. It is also very lightweight and the dial strap lets me fit exactly as I want it.

"Buy it!"  10/12/07

It may not be the most stylish piece of gear I have but it works and it's comfortable. It allows for lots of ventilation and it is so light that while I was climbing I forgot I had it on, until I bumped my head into the rock!

"This helmet is my best friend."  10/05/07

Love the helmet it's saved my brain once, and my ego several times. It's also just good-looking enough to wear around town. Be warned that a medium-sized whack to something with your forehead can be a enough to separate the shell from the foam, which makes me cautious to continue using this helmet. It's super light, and comfy, and amazingly fun to adjust, so I might just have to order a new one of these.

"Get the color of helmet you want, this one has nice colors!"  07/06/07

it's comfy and hugs the head given it's rear of head strap. however, beware that this helmet in a M/L fits those with a big BUT NARROW head ear-to-ear but not a big BUT WIDE head, i.e., it's a very narrow helmet. my friend has a slightly larger head circumference than i, while it fits him it does not fit me at all because my head is wider.

I REALLY LIKE THE WAY IT FITS, AND IT WAS REALLY HELPFUL ON PREVENTING SUNBURN IN THE PART OF MY HAIR. THE VENTS WERE GREAT, AND IT WAS NOT TOO HEAVY, SO I WAS ABLE TO HANDLE BELEEING SCOUTS VIRTUALLY ALL DAY ON THE CLIMBING TOWER. THANKS FOR A GOOD PRODUCT, AS WELL AS GREAT SERVICE AS ALWAYS!
