For fast-and-light ski mountaineering and alpine ascents, the Raven Ultra Ice Axe by Black Diamond provides an extra level of security with minimal weight. Its ergonomically-shaped, compact head is investment cast, as is the plug that rims and protects the aluminum shaft. The shaft also has a beveled point for good penetration and security.
