A great ultralight backup light, the new Ion Light by Black Diamond is small enough to stash just about anywhere, plus the reflector-housed, 1/2 watt LED casts a far-reaching beam for finding your way up that final pitch of 5.11 or down that last mile back to the trailhead. Our lightest headlamp at 30 grams (1 oz), the Ion has a pivoting head that angles the light anywhere you need it, and a replaceable 6-volt battery provides power for 15 hours at the low setting and 3 hours on high. Yes, the Ion is unnoticeable in size and weight, but don't let its diminutive size fool you-this two-setting headlamp is Black-Diamond-tough, able to withstand apocalyptic levels rain and sleet.

"My several ION lights have been used at sea level on a QE II crossing or Mt. Hotel,CO. Great Light!" |

| My only thing with this light is the power source. Stock up on the batteries if you are heading out in the back forty, thirty, or just taking a long road trip. I wear one around my neck on evening dog walks, fixing the car, and just to have a quick light source (or PLD: personal lighting device),first thing at a new camp site. As soon as I'm finished serving another military tour in the UK, I'm back to Colorado for some high altitude fun with my Flatcoats. The ION will serve me well back home again. You can't go wrong having this little workhorse near you when in the darkness and need of fast enlightenment. Cheerio! Keith H. | |
