I think it's really meant to be packed with only sleeping bags since with 40+ lbs this thing feels AWFUL. When I got down I had gashes on my hips where the hip belt sits and scars on my shoulders because there is very little padding on the shoulder straps. The ice axe loops are connected to the straps for the top of the pack which means if you open the top of your pack for any reason, the ice axe comes loose and flops around until you strap the pack back up. The top compartment is very small compared with similar packs and even though there is room for expanding the main compartment, the straps to let out slack for the top compartment are too short to make use of the expanded space.
This is a great backpack. I use this one for 4 day trips, because it is slightly small. The suspension in this pack is fa nominal, it feels like the pack truly moves with you.
The design is flawless. There is massive amounts of storage in the main compartment (4 pillows worth to be exact) this gives you enough room to store all your stuff on the inside. Then on the outside there so many ways to comress your load. Also black diamond made the waist belt a pivot so you get a smooth flowing sensation. Off the top of my head I cant think of any problems. No question about it this is the pack to get.
This thing is truly amazing. A review cannot do it justice. The swivel hipbelt on this is so good and works so well that I can't tell you enough about how comfortable this pack is. It takes a little getting used to, but after just a little while I was blown away by this pack. Unlike many other backpacking packs, this one moves with you and goes where you go. And its freaking light! This is the best backpacking pack I've ever seen!
Black Diamond hit the nail on the head with this one. This is the most comfortable pack I have ever used. The suspension design allows the pack to move with your body improving mobility and weight distribution. I researched a good number of ~60L packs before settling on this one and I couldn't be happier with it. Plus, Black Diamond's customer service is superb: my hipstrap was ruined by an audacious woodrat shortly after buying the pack, a few days later BD had a new one sent to me free-of-charge.
