The Black Diamond Impact Crashpad is an entry level crash pad that is ready for daily use. Bouldering isn't so much fun if you're falling on the hard ground below, so have your climbing pal lay out this foam beauty under the problem before taking a crack at it. The combination of closed-cell PE foam and high-compression PU foam cushions the fall so you can go at it time and time again. A convenient hinge at the center allows you to fold 'er up, slip the straps on your shoulders and buckle the waistbelt before heading off to a new challenge.
FEATURES of the Black Diamond Impact Crashpad
All around pad for day-to-day entry-level use
Clean, hinge-fold design
Premium fold layup
600D Ripstop polyester

Solid pad, but woudn't trust it as my only padThis is a really solid "filler" pad for your bouldering arsenal. Only four inches thick and a decent size crease in the middle means there's a risk for bottoming out if you land in the wrong spot. Not a big risk though, Ive taken big falls on it and haven't felt a thing. Other than that I like the duel handles on either side of the pad which make it pretty easy to move around. If you are looking to climb with only one pad I would suggest something beefier like the Mad Rock Mad-Pad (an inch thicker, bigger area, and like 30 bucks cheaper) or even the bigger Black Diamond pads.

This is a great pad for certain situations. This pad feels great to land on but is fairly tight. If you are doing highballs then this shouldn't be your only pad! Also, on a steep landing it seemed to launch me down the mountain rather than stick my landing like a perfect gymnast in the Olympics. However, if you are an all around climber, this is a great pad that will protect you! I also have the Mad Rock pad which is a little bigger and a little thicker which is preferred in sketch situations. Tots get it!
