The BD Focus Harness was the first harness I ever bought and used for rock climbing. Even today it is still my go to harness for sport climbing and top-roping. It is extremely comfortable and I haven't had a problem with loss of blood flow to the extremities as I have had with other harnesses. The gear loops are fantastic and have plenty of room for quickdraws, belay devices, and numerous other sport climbing gear. Plus, the small green webbing loop seen in the back of the picture between the gray leg-strap placeholders is the perfect place to clip your chalk bag. Some people despise the non-adjustable leg loops but I find them very well made and secure. They also allow the harness to be donned slightly faster as all you have to do is cinch down the waist belt. If you are right on the border of sizes it all comes down to personal preference. I have a 30" waist and I use a medium. I have to cinch it ALL the way down, but it is a snug fit (not super tight, but snug).
Harnesses comfort is a very fickle thing, but I found this harness to be super comfortable thus far. I know some avid climbers might not like the leg straps since they are on elastic loops that should self adjust rather than being tightened by a strap. I like it because I have larger thighs and this harness adjusts quickly and is easy to slip on. The one strap speed adjust waistbelt buckle is nice and quick and again works well to quickly get this harness on. The sizing is a bit different then the other black diamond harnesses. I sit right inbetween their sizes for the waist, so I went up a size. This didn't seem to affect the harness, and really it's all about comfort for harnesses.
Harness was too big. I have a 30 inch waist, and the medium was pretty loose. This wouldn't be as bad if the leg loops were adjustable. I'd suggest going a size smaller. The leg loops still won't be adjustable though. On the plus side, I haven't taken a ground fall since wearing this harness.
The Focus harness is amazing! This one is the best product for the purchase price. It is so comfortable to wear as well as hang in. On my last outing I hung there snapping pics of my friends and didn’t experience the bite in the leg loops like of some other harnesses. If you’re riding the size line like myself, don’t worry, Go the next size up! I was worried that the leg loops on the XL would ride but they don’t. The elastic keeps them snug and secure. Honestly have no draw backs to this product! Its great, comfortable, and the color looks even better in person! All my friends were trying to walk away with it while I wasn’t looking!! Some friends :D those gear vultures!!
Ive only had a few changes to use this harness but can already tell how great it is. one thing to note is that the gear loops are different than what is in the picture. The harness I received has normal gear loops like any other harness not that plastic divider in the picture.
