Took this pack out alpine touring for the first time on the weekend, good fit (M/L I am 6ft 195lbs) and straps keep pack in place well. Not big enough for overnight excursions (need 35-40L+) , or if you have to have every little thing along. Haven't tried the ski carry but it seems less burly then most packs I have seen (but how often do you use this anyway-)Avalung for sure gives the illusion of safety. Unfortunately there is a hard box on the shoulder strap that does cause 1 stiff sore shoulder. I have heard that the 1st generation of BD avalung packs are like this. Hate the nose plug, it hurts and I cant see it being of any use in an avalanche, just breathe through your food hole!
Great pack. The Avalung is easy to use and provides a sense of security. Pack seems well made and the organization is good. The avalanche pocket can hold K2 rescue shovel plus disassembled into 2 parts, BD Quick Draw Guide Probe (300 cm), BD snow saw, with the zipper normally closed.

Okay- so you're going to ski Teton Pass or some other off piste run(I said piste...), this pack is perfect for in and outta bounds. It's not too big, fitting your essential avalanche gear, e.g. probe, big spoon, and of course a spare jacket. The helmet attachment in the back is a big help when skinning get's you sweating like a mother-to-be becoming a mother. It's a beautiful thing. So, yeah, if you don't need a ton of space and you're into fast and light backcountry trips, this is the one. P.S. I do feel safer with this pack. Thank God I haven't needed the snorkle yet.
