This is a great belay/rappel device for thicher ropes (above 9.8 mm). Great for the money and compact enought to toss on and forget. Great deal.

These things are classic. What is better than proven proven brand name and its products ? Yeap, get the best, and not cheap imitations. Carabiner is light and big. I use it pretty much for everything. And, belay device speaks for itself. Nice !!!

"What a deal!" 		          12/23/08
I really like the carabiner that comes with this package. It seems to be perfectly suited to the backside of the ATC. The way the metal curves at the top of the carabiner really helps to hold the belay device in place. The large Petzl Williams carabiner I used to use while belaying is too round and seems to me more apt at allowing the carabiner to rotate with slack in the rope. Not good.

"THIS ATC ROCKS AND THE 'BINER IS SUPER SOLID" 		          10/21/08
This combo rocks, the atc is perfect for belays and makes repelling a breeze, even for younger climbers and new kids to the sport. The caribiner is solid and helps even super obsessive safety gurus calm down. Getting them together is totally chill because a) they are less expensive this way and b) you don't have to wait for one or the other to get to you, they both get there together. BD is a great brand and this is a sweet combo :)

"WARNING: If you want to drop the person you are belaying DO NOT buy this!" 		          10/13/08
So like, this is great for belaying somebody, but if you don't want them to be safe in the air, you totally shouldn't buy this belay device... just like, hold the rope with one hand, beer in the other. That is totally safe. Not. But really, This is the best belay device ever. Better than a GriGri. And since I want to go above and beyond, to get 100 REWARDS POINTS(!), I'll add this little tip: if you ever drop your carabeaner on the ground or any other hard surface, you should immediately discard it and purchase a new one (from Moosejaw ONLY, of course) this is because when they are dropped, the metal forms tiny cracks and could break! Just a safety tip!

As somewhat of a newbie, this is the ticket. The ATC doesn't really let you zip down the rope out of control and cinches down easily. Good stuff.
