Smooth, like butter on linoleum.I've had this bag for the past six months. I've used it nearly everyday. I have been changing the loadout for daily trips to the gym, climbing gym, ice walls and now the crag. It handles around 30 lbs comfortably. The suspension is amazing. While scrambling up the side entrances to top roping sections the bag really allows you to move well as the waist-belt rotates. The shoulders also allow independent movement as they have a single steel cable that connects them through the bottom of the pack. You have to exaggerate your movements to feel it in store but when you're out you'll move freely; like an ice dancer minus the tights and makeup. Maybe. The ice specific carry options are great, I paired Petzl Caritools since I like the way they attach better than the BD.

Upper shoulder straps are terribleUnfortunately for being such a cool pack, it looks like Black Diamond somehow completely messed up the design of how the upper shoulder straps connect to the pack. The two straps merge into one solid piece by the neck, which ends up cutting into the neck in a very uncomfirtable way when there is a slight load. I wanted this pack to work SO BAD that I even ordered it in multiple sizes to try to get the right fit. Unfortunately, it's just a bad design.
