These poles are just as expected. Lightweight, sturdy and have great grip. One con I have is that the locking mechanism will not engage when the poles are fully collapsed. So you have to pull out the pole a bit to get the locking mechanism to engage. Other than that, the poles are right on point.
"Awesome poles - well worth the extra $$"
These are my first poles and I settled on them after testing out many of them and researching all the reviews. For three-section collapsibles, this was the general consensus best trekking pole with versatility for hiking, trekking, climbing, and backpacking. After receiving and handling them in person, I can say the cost is well worth it. The cork handles feel awesome and the flicklock pro locks feel super secure as they are now made of steel. The only gripe I had is with the plastic cover pieces on the flicklocks. They seem like they would crack easily and my poles actually had a small internal crack already present upon receiving. I called BD and they said it is cosmetic and does not affect performance and that they can send new pieces if yours break. Can't go wrong with these poles!
"The greatest poles besides the ones people dance on!!"
I recently upgraded from my old aluminium poles for these sweet high-speed-low-drag carbon poles for my trip to the Grand Canyon. They are extremely comfortable, lightweight and boy can they take a beating. I've read some reviews on other websites complaining about the new Flicklocks coming undone by brush or other objects on the trail, but I took these bad boy down from the north rim down to the Colorado river and back and never had a problem. Yes they're expensive but totally worth it. I can't wait to take them on my mountaineering trip this winter; they come with powder baskets!
Bought these poles for my sister's JMT thru hike. When she got back, they were still in pretty good condition after 24 rough days on the trail and she said they performed admirably. The cork grips were good on the hands.
I have used these Black Diamond Alpine Carbon cork trekking poles for over 8 years. I have been pretty careful with them but not babied them at any time. They are still going strong. No issues with any corrosion or finish cracking or carbon delamination. The adjustment mechanisms have held up and are still tight clamping yet easy to adjust and flip. They do take a firm grip to unlatch them. However, I think that is designed so the don't flip open accidentally and collapse your poles. I appreciate the light weight of these and don't ever notice any extra fatigue from using these. Actually, they really extend your stamina and stability quite well. I love using these during water crossings. I really thing trekking poles are a must if one one going across uncertain terrain with any sort of packed weight. They can be a life saver and prevent a bad tumble or twisted ankle that might otherwise end a beautiful hiking adventure. Good poles and worth the money spent on them.
"Never will backpack without poles again"
I'd never backpacked with poles before but there were a few sections of snow on the trail I was headed so I went ahead and ordered a set. All I can say is that these poles were great and really helped me up some big passes even without snow. Quality and construction was perfect. It took awhile to get the strap adjusted correctly but once you get it right they are awesome.
I have hiked Fuji, the Minami Alps, and other various mountains with these wonderful poles and I must say they are great! Very light weight, super compact, and strong. The cork feels really comfortable in the hand. Even when I am sweating a lot, the cork does a great job of not feeling wet. The adjustment is super easy making it nice for on the move adjustments. I have used these in mud, rocks, snow, grasslands, small rivers, and everything in between. They really do take the strain off my legs. This is actually the first pair of trekking poles I have ever own. I was very surprised at how much they really do help. I'll never go on a tri with out them. My girlfriend and best friend love these as well. To me, this is the best set available and I looked at them all while I was deciding on what pair to go with. A little bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.
"Cork grips don't tear up your hands on long trips."
The cork handles are great, they don't tear up your hands on long trips. The carbon sections means that extreme cold doesn't make them brittle. Locking sections are solid. The one feature I wish that it had is articulated grips. They offer it on the carbon poles with an articulated aluminum section.
1st Set of trekking poles ever. They worked great. Never slipped or mis-adjusted themselves. They telescope down to fit on the pack. Very light. These poles saved a 5 day backpack trip on the AT as on the down mountain portions I had extreme knee pain from a tight IT band. Never would have made it without the support from these poles.I'm 240 lbs with pack and I put weight on them - never bowed or anything. Also, the poles improved my speed by about 1 mph (timed over practice hikes with and without poles). I recommend wearing fingerless and padded bike gloves too. Helps to prevent blisters. The only down side was a manufacturing issue where a "metal pin" which hold the cork in place was a tad too long and rubbed my thumbs skin off. A trail tool and a rock pounded it in and then all was good...Also, after a tough day of going "up" the mountains the back of my arms/triceps were noticeably sore.I'll never backpack without trekking poles again.
