The Black Diamond Alpine Bod Harness is a simple climbing harness geared towards ice and alpine climbing. The whole harness is constructed with nylon webbing, with quick-release leg loops and a traditional double-back buckle at the waist. The little guy weighs in at only 14 ounces and packs away easily when you're not on the wall. Four gear loops and a haul loop brings your gear along with you for the ride and the whole thing dries quickly in unsavory weather. Not to shabby on the wallet either.

FEATURES of the Black Diamond Alpine Bod All-Around Harness

  • Traditional buckle
  • Quick-release leg loops
  • 4 gear loops
  • 12 kN-rated haul loop
  • Entire harness constructed from quick-dry nylon webbing

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Quality for Low bucks! Simple Design provides all you need for a simple climb. The Alpine Bod is probably the cheapest harness in the general market. The simple design will do its job in keeping you safe. The Pros:The Price! Although its cheap, it does its job.The set up is safe and it still has plenty of gear loops. The wide Hip belt gives a bit more comfort and support than skinner belts. The set up forces to you to rope yourself in using the entire belt as an anchor, not just a loop that is sown on the front of the harness. The Cons:There is no padding. This can cause some comfort issues, especially if you are wearing all day.The harness is very flimsy, and therefore lacks the stiffness and support of some pricier harnesses.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What's not to like? As light as you can ask for, next to invisible classic BD black. Go for it. With four gear loops, wide-enough leg loops, and the simplest of design, the Alpine Bod is deservedly a classic. Meeting weight requirements for the airlines and the pack makes every ounce count and this is as light as you can get for the quality. Waist and leg loops are big enough to absorb the burdens (ah, but you never all, do you?--at least not on alpine!); may not a great choice for hours of working your 5.14 sport project and hanging more of the time than not (come on, everybody hangs). Granted, this one's only for modest climbers who don't insist on showing off: BD classic black, and this time they leave off the orange accents! Go for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No-belay-loop is a small price to pay for ease in dropping trou. Great for with crampons.,,,,No belay loop to forget to do the waist belt through. The plastic leg-loop buckles are more convenient than super sturdy, right?, but they shouldn't end up being all that weight bearing.,,,,I'm not sure it fits quite right, but the comfort of being able to undo/redo the leg loops instantly totally makes up for that. But then I spend most of a climbing trip sitting around vs being on duty and all.,,,,Oh, and everyone's ass looks good in their harnesses. Am I not showing off like I could by staying unclipped?,,,,-E PS Someone said you wouldn't be allowed to use a belayloopless harness like this at a rock gym. I dunno. FWIW.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great design, but wacky sizing This is the best designed alpine harness out there with the dropping leg loops. The sizing it not entirely accurate though, so I'd recommend trying different sizes on before you buy. I bought the large since I have a 32" waist and it said 32-36", but it is too big, only going down to 34" when I actually measured it. And when it's cinched down all the way that puts the buckle right where you need to attach a carabiner to belay or rappel. If you can't try one on and are in the overlap range between sizes, definitely get the smaller size. The description doesn't say this, but it comes in a mesh bag with a velcro closure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent for what it is I feel a bit redundant reviewing this harness again, but whatever. I love it. Great lightweight harness for alpine mountaineering, or even ice climbing. There is no padding, but when outfitted for cold-weather pursuits you have enough padding from your clothes. Sure there is no belay loop, but you can make do if you are careful. My climbing gym wouldn't let me use it for that reason, but I wouldn't want to. i have another harness that is more comfortable for the gym environment. The harness is also super easy to put on and remove, and toilet breaks are aided by the clip-up leg loops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice and light I used my reward points to buy this new alpine climbing harness and just got it in the mail today and am very satisfied with it. it is fairly light weight and very compact. solid thick nylon all around and is certainly not built for comfort witch is not a problem for most alpine climbing where not a whole lot of time is spent dangling from a rope. The thigh buckles seem to be durable and strong enough for mid weight climbers. This harness is nothing fancy but will certainly satisfy most climbers. it did for me and to this day i have never been disappointed with any black diamond equipment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It's the standard issue alpine harness for a reason- fast, light, simple, easy to use. I purchased this harness for general mountaineering use in alpine environments, and it serves that function perfectly. light weight, leg clips allow easy on/off over thick layers or crampons and in less than perfect conditions. Leg loops are made of thick enough webbing that the lack of padding won't be too problematic if you aren't hanging for extended periods of time. Waist belt could be more comfortable for long term wear, especially when hiking uphill, but this is a minor inconvenience and far from a deal-breaker. Overall, an excellent (if not ideal) harness for mountain use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Harness for winter mountaineering. Everything you need & nothing you don't. SO glad they are still making this after 30 some years, it's still the one I recommend over all others for Alpine Climbing. It's light, cheap, has everything you need and nothing you don't. The drop-seat design makes it easy to put on when you're on the side of a mountain & wearing boots & crampons. Unclip the leg loops and put on the belt, then reach down & clip your legs. The only slight challenge is that you MUST remember to double back the buckle, which is why some people don't like it. But ya gotta remember to tie in, too. It's called climbing.
