Good for belaying on double ropes as thick as 11mm in my experience. Nice friction for rappelling. I feel more in control with this than with my regular ATC. Just buy it, you'll have to do some belaying/rappelling at some point in your climbing career so you might as well get one
This is a great belay device. It was the first kind I purchased and have stuck with it since. The teeth help with traction, and it can fit a few different sizes of rope the only con is that it seems to wear easily, but I climb several times a week, which I believe is the reason for that. I would recommend this belay device to anyone.
It doesn't get any better than this! This belay device is very sturdy and comfortable to use. You won't have to worry about it breaking down anytime soon. Not to mention the amazing price! This is a steal!
The BD ATC-XP is a great belay device, a definite upgrade from the basic ATC. It's perfect for top roping or rappelling. If you want a belay device for any situation, look at the BD ATC Guide, but if you're a new climber or stay mostly in the gym, this device is the way to go.
This is a great belay device, a definite upgrade over the basic ATC. It's perfect for top roping and rappelling. If you want a more serious device that can do everything, the BD ATC Guide is the way to go. But if you're a beginner or climb in a gym a lot, this belay is great for you.
I have had this device for a few months and have put it to the test, from my findings I have decided that it is a great ATC, and is a really good intermediate device between the regular "bucket" and the new guide. I would recommend this to anyone who would like a step up from their plain ATC because it is a bit smoother in rappels. Good luck and happy climbing!
"Great Device, might be too small on ropes 9.5mm+"
Got this a couple of weeks ago and have been enjoying using it at the gym. The colors are pretty rad and the device is light but still very sturdy. My only warning is that it can be difficult to belay smoothly with it using thicker ropes.
