"Great device for outdoor adventures, but so is reverso 3" |
10/28/09 |
| When shopping for a device it was between this and the reverso 3. After researching both the only difference is in weight (this is heavier), the reverso can take a carabiner in both holes (thats what she said), and and price (if you are poor this is cheaper). If you are a gym climber skip this device...you are better off with one of the other ATC's to suit your needs. The atc guide is sick, but you don't need to spend money on a rig you arent going to actively use. | |

| Love it. Works much better than the ATC's I started on. Stay away from some of the thicker ropes! | |

"Good device, lots of options, but probably can save a few $$$ by using other devices" |
09/17/09 |
| If I had it to do over again, I would probably have purchased some of the cheaper devices with similar functionality. Don't get me wrong, I like the device, especially the high friction concept, which really works. My 130 lb wife can belay me at 240 lbs, no problem. However, there are other high friction devices, that just don't support the guide mode if you need to save a few bucks. Plus, you really need to know what you are doing if you are going to put it in guide mode, because if you don't, someone could really get hurt. That being said, the guide mode hole makes a nice spot to clip the device to my harness for storage. | |

| Works great just like it should, kinda a pain with really thick ropes, but that should be easily avoidable. | |

"Great!" |

| I love the auto locking setup. Makes belaying you're second very easy. The only draw back I've noticed is tryign to give slack when the line is loaded required you to lift up on the front. Easily fixed by attaching some cord to the loop. | |

"Great device for belaying in guide and normal modes." |
07/01/09 |
| I finally switched from my old ATC-XP to this when I learned how to belay in guide mode for multipitch or tall climbs. It has worked great so far (though Ive only used it in guide mode a couple times). Some people complain that the release loop is too small to fit a biner, but I just thread some cordalette through it and its works great. I would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want or need something complex like a Gri-Gri. | |

| This thing is awesome! It's nice to have a choice of the high & low friction sides. The high-friction definitely lives up to it's name, and it's great to be able to belay from above with the autolocking feature. | |

"Worth it for the autoblock function." |
05/02/09 |
| I first started climbing with an ATC, eventually I moved up to an ATC-XP, and recently I upgraded again to the ATC-Guide. I consider BD products to be the top of the line - none other belay devices I have used come close - and if you are going to get a belay device this is the one to get. It is a little bit heavy, but definitely worth the weight for the durability that the Petzl devices lack. | |
