"Good Belay Device for Minimal Belaying"  01/18/11

A friend of mine has this and i use it quite often. I used it to belay for a group of people one time and it got really hot pretty fast from the rope friction. However, it did its job very well! I would recommend this for anyone who is not doing a lot of belaying.

"Good Starting Belay Device"  01/12/11

This was a good product to learn on but i've now used better. Gets the job done though for regular top-rope climbs.

"...a must have on your rack..."  01/04/11

If your a beginner or a pro you need this ATC. Great for slow or fast repels along with being a belay device. Lighter than a Gri Gri and not as combersome on your rack; ATC's are amazing. Got one of these jewels when I bought the Black Diamond combo and it has been a champ. Graduated to an 8 but I still use my ATC...All That Counts.

"simple, cheap, effective..."  01/02/11

Great belay device. I teach a climbing class and this al we use. Yes, some gyms use the Grigri, but for the new climber I think this is better. Its easy to learn to use properly and is simple for the climber to check that its set-up properly. So easy, that I taught my 10 & 11 yr old boys how to belay with it and now they belay one another. Have I used other be;ay devices? Yes. But for the money, this is the one I would recommend.

"easy, cheap, effective"  01/02/11

It works. I teach a climbing class and this is all the gym uses. Yes, a lot of gyms use the Grigri because they think they are safer. But the ATC is easy and safe to use. Plus the climber can easily check to see if the belay has been set-up properly. Its also easy to learn how to use. I've even been able to teach my 10 & 11 yr old boys how to use it and now they belay one another. Have I used other belay devices? Yes. But for the money this is the one I would reccomend.

"Easy, simple, inexpensive"  12/25/10

The perfect piece of gear for someone starting out. It's also perfect for an experienced person wanting something reliable. Unlike a Mammut belay device I own, this one very rarely gets stuck when the rope gets some heavy tension, which also makes it great for rappels. If you're starting out in the sport and looking for good, inexpensive, and reliable gear, go ahead and get this thing. It'll last a lifetime and will get a ton of use. Well worth the investment. I wish I'd purchased one sooner.

"Great bang for the buck"  12/16/10

This is the most basic device on the market, but it works and why reinvent the wheel?

"Get one if you're starting out."  12/07/10

The ATC is the best beginner belay device IMO because it is cheap. If you don't know if you're going to be climbing for a while then get the ATC. it feeds much better than other devices and is very smooth. it can be slightly more difficult to hold someone for and extended period of time though. If you know you're going to be climbing more than 4 months, then spend the extra cash to get a petzl reverso.
