Read All 26 ReviewsOptimizing a blend of focused and peripheral light, the streamlined Spot Headlamp by Black Diamond produces an amazing amount of light for a lamp that fits in your pocket. Housed in a reflector, the one-watt LED throws a far-reaching beam-plenty strong enough for pre-dawn approaches or route finding during a through-the-night single push. When all you need is close-range light, switch modes and use the three proximity LEDs, which emit ambient light for more than 140 hours. A single switch on top lets you choose from four lighting levels for both modes-min, mid, max and strobe-to dial-in the light output to your needs. The batteries-up-front design works great for reading when you're tent-bound while waiting for a weather window.

"Good headlamp and great spotlight" 07/20/10
You ever have that one thing far away at night where you just can't get your headlamp to see? Not if you have this thing. The spotlight is also great for bouldering at night since it lights up exactly what you are looking at. The button system is a little bit of a pain, going through the half clicks. Also, every time you turn it on it seems to be in the opposite mode you want it to be in (spotlight vs smaller LEDs). I did not see it as that big a deal it did not have a redlight option. Seen the redlight used and you might as well go by moonlight. All in all, it is a good headlamp that gives you your money's worth
"This light rocks wish we would have had it.." 05/16/10
This light is amazing. We were doing the keyhole trail last summer and I so wished that we would have had it when we were out there. It is so bright and they were not kidding about the range on this light. It's sturdy and easy to use compared to other products that we have had. If you want a great light, go with the Black Diamond.
"Great light but fragile case" 05/14/10
The Spot puts out lots of useful light when you need it but also just a little for in camp needs. I've also used it as a headlamp for cycling as well, and the bright bulb keeps the motorists at bay.The downside is that the case is thin plastic and cracked after little use. Now it is broken completely, which makes the light unreliable.
"Everything you can ask in a Headlamp." 05/04/10
I couldn't see this light being any better, other than the power switch. it's a little awkward getting used to the setting you need but with a little practice it will be second nature. The light is ample for working in the dark. I don't think twice about setting up camp in the dark knowing I have these for my girl and I. Also, if someone was to try and attack you with these on they would have a hell of a time since looking into the light is painfully blinding.
"Light and just as powerful as lamps weighing twice as much" 04/22/10
Can't complain when it contends on both ends of the headlamp spectrum... It's light and super bright, not to mention it's not terribly expensive, either. Plus, check out the burn times. This is a no brainer for an all purpose lamp.
"Great light if not a little annoying to turn on." 03/30/10
I had the first led headlamp and people made fun of it and asked if I could even read by it. Well... years later it finally broke and there were just a couple of other models on the market. I bought this because it offered the longest available battery life (setting 2 on low power). The problem- nuisance, really, is that there is only one button. So, sometimes, it takes 6 clicks to get to that low battery setting. Sometimes, depending on where it was left when it was turned off, it will only take 3 clicks to get to that same low battery setting. Either way, I wish I could do it with one click.
"Good brightness and battery life for a lightweight headlamp." 03/12/10
While not the brightest headlamp out there, the Spot has excellent brightness for its light weight. I find it bright enough for most night time route finding, and it has become my standard for backcountry trips. The one drawback, and why it gets only 4 stars, is the switch is a bit inconvenient. You push the button 3 times to cycle through the 3 brightness levels, with the brightest level coming on first. Since for most uses the low setting is plenty bright and the preferred level, I have to press the button 3 times each time I turn it on. I would prefer the low setting to come on first. Unfortunately, every headlamp manufacturer that I've tried has the brightest level come on first.
"GREAT product!" 02/21/10
This headlamp is super light, the fabric is super soft...making it super comfortable if you're just wearing it on your skull without a helmet back at camp. I also really like the tilt adjustment so you're able to light your walking path while keeping your head up!
