A pocket-sized, collapsible backcountry mini lantern, the Orbit Lantern by Black Diamond is perfect for trekking and backpacking excursions where gram shaving is crucial. The 84-gram (3 oz) Orbit compacts to 102 mm (4 in) and extends in height to 140 mm (5.5 in), yet still casts a broad, six-foot radius of light. The brightness of the Orbit's non-glaring 1-watt LED can be adjusted thanks to its dimming switch, while the dual reflectors and frosted globe maximize light output and minimize the lantern's shadow. Cleverly designed dual hooks on top of the Orbit allow it to be quickly and securely attached to a tent or tree branch. The lantern runs on 4 AAA alkalines, as well as Black Diamond's Orbit-specific NRG2 Rechargeable Battery Kit.

"Great Product"  06/17/10

Recently used this light during a power outage after a severe thunderstorm. This light provided ample light for several hours during outage. LED output is impressive and I can assume due to the size and weight anyone looking for a compact lantern for backpacking or kayak camping will be more then satisfied.

"Compact dimmable design, falls a bit short on light pattern!"  04/18/10

The size can't be beat and the battery life is very good. The light is nice and diffused when you are at the same elevation as the lantern. When you hang it above you in the tent, the walls get the light, and you are left laying in the "void". I would recommend improving it by hanging it from the battery end and replacing the top of the globe with more diffused lens. Optional rechargeable batteries, but why do that when AAA are so widely available.

"The Power of the Sun in Your Pocket"  04/16/10

I this is one of my favorite new toys! I love hanging this in my tent at night and my wife loves that I no longer blind her with my headlamp every time I look at her when she asks me a question. While it hasn't replaced my headlamp, because that certainly has it's place, the Orbit is a nice addition to my gear. The frosted globe feature is nice because it really does cut down on the blinding glare that some other lanterns have but it also doesn't compromise its brightness

"Super Lite and Conveient with Adjustable Brightness."  11/28/09

Great light for lighting up the tent and the camp. One time used it as our campfire since we didn't have any wood. Only problem not enough heat to replace campfire.

"pocket sized power"  11/04/09

This small lantern puts out an enormous amount out light. It is perfect for camping because it doesn't take up much room. I bought this for myself and love it so much I am going to buy them for all of my friends.

"Perfect Tent Light"  09/13/09

I have spent quite a while looking for a tent light that was worth carrying. Ultimately, I end up using my headlamp with a diffused beam. Unfortunately when using my headlamp I either run the batteries out of it or have to steal it while going on a bathroom run. Black Diamond has solved the problem and in a big way. The Orbit comes with a split ring hanger which works in any tent, has a fully adjustable dimmer, is easy on batteries and folds down so compact it is worth hauling in your pack. If you have the need, it is a wise purchase. BD, well done.

"Who says size matters?"  08/31/09

This little 1 watt lantern was extremely helpful in my camping experiance. It lit up my whole tent and as long as I kept it on, it has yet to even show me the slightlest hint that I need to replace the batteries. This is a great product for camping, hiking, boating, or any other trips you find yourself needing some light. :)

"Light, heavy duty and no gas means no explosions"  08/25/09

Saw this puppy at a local store and after two seconds of playing with it, knew I had to get one from Moosejaw. It doesn't throw out a ton of light, but better than a candle lantern and 4AAA batteries supposedly last 10+ hours at maximum light output. When collapsed, the yellow power button is covered so no worries about being turned on when stuffed in your pack. My only gripe is when the "globe" is fully extended, the power level indicators get covered so you have to slide it in a half inch or so to see them. No biggie, but nice personal light source.

"SMALL PACKAGE, BIG RESULTS!"  08/24/09

Just returned from a 2 day camping trip in the Adirondack Mountains. This was the only light I used other than the camp fire! Absolutely superb! Extremely bright.. as a matter of fact, when I was inside the tent I dimmed it. I love it so much, I am going to go buy another!!!

"A lot of light from such a small package"  07/20/09

This small but VERY effective light is a must have on a camping trip. Also great to have if the power goes out at home. The dimmer feature is a way to keep the peace at night if your fellow camper wants to sleep and you want to read.

"Wish I bought one of these years ago!"  06/18/09

The thing that I love about this light the most is the dimming feature. I like to read and my wife likes to play games. When she gets tired and goes to bed I dim this down a bit and read in my comfy sleeping bag. It has virtually no glare - just nice, usable light.
