A bright, non-glaring, soup-can sized backcountry lantern with foldable legs and NRG rechargeable battery compatibility, the Apollo Lantern by Black Diamond is equipped to illuminate all of your nighttime camping activities such as cooking, reading in the tent, or playing a three-hour, no-mercy game of Rummy 500. The Apollo's frosted globe combined with its inset 3-watt LED, eliminates glare while the dual reflectors capture and maximize light output, casting off illumination to brightly fill a four-person tent. A unique dimming switch provides adjustable brightness, and the distinctive fold-down legs increase the Apollo's height to 9.5 inches (24.1 cm ), boosting light dispersion. The lantern runs on 4 AA alkalines or, better yet, Black Diamond's NRG Rechargeable Battery Kit, and has a handy battery power indicator with green, yellow or red LEDs that display either the amount of battery power left or the charging status of the NRG.

"Bring in the sun (when it's setting)"  06/05/10

I bought this gadget to replace two brunton glorbs. This thing uses the same number of batteries and weighs no more than one of the "glorbs" and it still gives three times the light when used inside a tent. It's packable and the bulb is well protected from unintended damage.AND. my son loves to fly it around and pretend it's a space ship (good argument to use if the mrs. ask you if it's really necessary to buy another gadget for camping - it's fun for the whole family)Good product but remember to pack an extra set of batteries if you are planning to be gone for more than a couple of days in the winter.

"Awesome!"  02/08/10

This lantern is really great. It's pretty bright for it's size and seems bulletproof. Batteries seem to last a while in it when it's warm out, I haven't tried it in colder weather yet. This thing is universally loved. Anyone that's touched it will recommend it. There's even a smaller version for the person looking to shave every ounce.

"a nice bright light- a little hard on batteries"  01/21/10

i got this for a tent light and to use in the primitive cabins we go to. it's very sturdy and stable. the light is even and switch is reliable. i use alkaling aaa batteries and they last about a day and a half of heavy use....fine for car-camping but i wouldn't try and backpack with it.

"Love It"  01/19/10

This lantern is great for my backpacking trips! It is lightweight, bright enough to read by, and the little flippy legs are great for annoying your boyfriend when you get bored. It is stable and can also be hung up by the top loop thingy. Definitely worth the money (though I didn't spend any, my aunt bought this for me)!

"Great compact lantern"  11/05/09

I just used this lantern last weekend and it worked out great. I love the fact that the lanterns legs folds up and the top pushes down. The diming function is also cool. The lantern doesn't give a ton of light but great for lighting up the tent or a small area outside.

"Depends how much light you want"  10/15/09

For my purpose, tent camping for a few weeks, this was a great investment. I would say it lights about a 15' to 20' radius. But from 0' to 10' foot radius gives you really good light. It is nowhere near the light output of a gas burning lantern. It obviously wasn't intended to. The best thing about it is that it is light, compact, and you can look directly at it without blinding yourself. The light is very uniform all the way around the lantern. The dimming feature is fantastic. We used the dim setting when hanging in the tent. It was used for appx. 15 hours and the 4 AA batteries are still strong. I just wish it was a tad brighter. Brightness is very subjective, though.

"Small but bright!"  10/14/09

The lantern is smaller than I had expected it to be but that did not affect the amount of light it gives off. This little lantern is awesome. It packs a bright light. I have not used it for backpacking yet but it would work quite well.

"Cool design but limited light"  05/20/09

I'm kinda let down by this. There is enough light for inside a tent, but not much more than that. Definetely not a replacement for a coleman lantern

""Don't Leave Home Without It'"  04/14/09

Wheather its a power outage or month long expedition into the alps this is the lantern for you. Puts out a ton of light for how small it is. Also I love how it packs down and hangs from the roof of my tent with just a small clip. The lantern is made to take daily abuse and looks to last the long haul. A must have for all campers.

"Great Lantern"  02/25/09

This is an excellent lantern. I took it car camping with me and the family and it exceeded expectations. Its small and can pack away eaisly. It provides a good amount of light when it is set on a table; enough to eat, play cards and even read. also provides a good amount of light when inside my tent. But dont expect this put out as much light as a gas lantern it doesnt, but i didnt expect it to.

"Good battery lantern"  11/02/08

It was a pretty good lantern, but did not put off the most light. It is good for inside the tent though.
