The Quantum Pack by Black Diamond has been exhaustively engineered to create a new level of performance in the big mountains. When hauling large loads to access climbs or cleaning camps, the modular V-Flex suspension provides the carrying comfort and performance of a backpacking pack. In steep terrain or for summit pushes it can be stripped down to a mere 900 grams (two pounds), making it a uncompromised climbing pack. Dual-density shoulder straps are a supportive 15 mm thick and cut to provide full range of motion, maximizing comfort when using the pack without a waistbelt. The dual-density 20 mm thick removeable waistbelt is cut to allow high steps through boulder fields and glacial debris, yet effectively distributes the pack load so it is carried on the hips. It is easily removed to clear your waist for access to your harness and gear loops. Other features include side-panel zip for quick access to thermos or mittens, and crampon straps are replaceable. A rope strap can carry several lengths of fixed ropes or two dynamic ropes and side compression straps fit sleeping pads or an alpine tent. Comes with removeable bivy pad. Hydration compatible. The upper axe loops double as emergency haul loops when used with grab loop.

Backpacker magazine is 100% on this baby! IT ROCKS, I liked it so much I had to pick up the Hollowpoint, which similarly leaves the competition in the dust! Black Diamond will be securely stowing TONS of my backpacking, camping, whitewater kayaking, surfing, snowboarding and YES, technical climbing gear anywhere I choose to take it for many moons to come. Best for Climbing in 2008 also, I imagine!

I didn't end up keeping this pack because it didn't fit, but it was great. The shoulders are well padded and it weight next to nothing. You can take off all the extra's to strip it down and make it wieghtless. I would have kept it but it's one size too big and they only have that size available for now, BD make it one size lower!

This is pack is super functional. The main thing to consider with this pack is your wasit size. I am a size 32 waist and a 20inch torso. The hipbelt is cut short and just makes it around my hips. So anyone who is considering this pack make sure you have a size 32 wasit or smaller. My 20inch torso puts me in both the medium and large frames. I found the large frame to be the best fit and yet small enough that some one with a shorter torso would also properly fit into a large. Dont let my mild criticizms scare you. It carries weight very well and has a tramendous ability to compress, so smaller trips are no big deal. There are plenty of atachment points on the pack as well, so dont worry about
