The wide pad works well in a hammock and a better valueI have the wide pad and have used this once so far in a hammock. When slightly underinflated it does a good job of insulating you from the side "cold spots" that you get with sleeping in a hammock. I have yet to use this on the cold hard ground. I am sure I will appreciate the 4 inches of loft when I do. I have been looking for a decent insulated pad for a while and I have found it. It is surprisingly thick and is more comfortable when slightly underinflated. It is one of the more reasonably priced insulated pads even though you pay a small weight penalty for the thicker pad. It is only weighs a couple of ounces more then the comparable therm a rest(X therm) all season pad and weighs less than the insulated sea to summit pad comfort plus and is thicker and gives you similar R values.

Arms on pad, not on groundI bought this 25" wide pad specifically so my arms would rest on the pad and not fall off to the ground, as happens so often with 20" wide pads. I plan to use it backpacking from 1 to 4 night trips. R4 value a big plus for insulation too.
The only thing that puzzled me was that the manufacturer's own pump bag, Big Agnes Pumphouse, did not work on the Double Z per Big Agnes. I did NOT want to blow this bag up by mouth at 10k elevation and get a headache, not to mention blowing moist air into insulation baffles inside. I worked out a beautiful solution: take a Sea to Summit Jetstream Pump Sack (the hand pump) and couple it to the Double Z one-way air valve with vinyl tubing and nylon coupler found at local hardware store for a tight but removable connection. Now I can pump up the pad easily by hand.

Better than my bed at homeThere are 2 drawbacks to this sleeping pad - it's bulky and it's on the heavy side. However, I'm more than happy to sacrifice some space in my pack and add a little extra weight in order to sleep like a baby.
I'm a cold sleeper so an insulated pad is must. I had a Big Agnes Air Core insulated pad which I let someone borrow. I don't know if they tried jumping on it or what, but when I got it back it wouldn't hold air around the seams and I couldn't repair it. And it was just days before I was leaving to spend 4 nights in Great Basin National Park.
I decided to replace my old BA pad with this Double Z because of the reviews I'd read and having checked it out at REI. Out of desperation I was ready to fork out $140 and then I thought I'd check Moosejaw. I got a fantastic deal ($109.00) and they had my new pad to me 2 days before I left on my trip. Thanks, Moosejaw!
Now for the best features of this pad... It's unbelievably comfortable! In fact, it's more comfortable than my bed at home. And it's definitely insulated. Even my old BA Air Core wasn't as warm (I have a 0F down bag and a SeaToSummit Thermolite bag liner and I couldn't use the liner even when the overnight temperatures were in the low 30's). Another great feature is that for an inflatable pad, it's the most stable thing out there - no feeling like you're on a boat all night long. Finally, inflation only takes about 30 breaths and the dual valve makes deflating it as easy as it gets.
I've been a fan of BA for the last 6 years and the quality of their products is great but so far, this cloud disguised as an air pad is my favorite! I've never slept better in the backcountry and I would highly recommend this pad to EVERYONE!

Great productSleeping pad works well & is comfortable! Wish it was self inflating, but not hard to inflate.
I need a sleeping bag to fit the 20/72/4 mummy pad, not having any luck finding a bag to fit the mummy pad, only rectangular pads. And would like a 20-30 degree bag in a range of 100-150 dollars , is there a BA bag for the double z insulated mummy pad ?
Asked by: Keny
There are several bags that would fit the mummy pad you have! One is the Big Agnes Husted 20 Degree Sleeping Bag and another is the Big Agnes Boot Jack 25 Degree Sleeping Bag. I hope this helps!
