If you are familiar at all with Big Agnes sleeping bags, then you know how it works with the pads. Pads slip into the sleeping bags so you never roll off at night. I picked up this pad for a 27 day bike ride in October. Was hoping I wouldn't get snowed on, but I did. There were also some pretty cold nights and this baby really made a difference. One thing is that it isn't self inflating, so you might spend a bit of breath blowing it up, and it isn't a super small pad. Rolled up its about the size of a Volleyball... but in the shape of a cylinder. But for me that doesn't matter, since i carry everything on my bike. It is also VERY comfortable. I'm a side sleeper and you cant feel the ground under you at all with this pad. Never was cold once on this pad. If you have a Big Agnes sleeping bag and want something to take out with you during winter or late fall camping, you wont regret this sleeping bag.
After sleeping on this I realized how crappy my old camping pad was. I wish I had figured it out sooner! I would definitely recommend this!It was a little thicker than I expected it to be, but I think that is what made it so nice. It rolls up to be pretty small. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to get it small enough to get it bag in the bag, but I finally got the hang of it (it is a tight fit, but don't give up, it fits).
I got this pad as a gift this past Christmas and I LOVE it. I love how it fits into the sleeve in the bottom of the sleeping bag so that you do not roll off of the pad. And it is VERY warm and comfortable. I can blow up the bag in about 2 minutes and I have no problems deflating it enough to fit into the stuff sack. I usually roll it up twice - first really quick to get the air out and then a second time to get it small and neat for storage.
Awesome pad. Keep in mind, it is a full 4 season pad, so it is bigger and heavier than some, but 2 pounds is awesome for something so warm and comfortable. I used the long version of this pad with a Sierra Designs BTU -5 in December, when the low of the night was -7. I slept open air, no bivy, straight on the snow with this pad. I didn't feel the cold ground once the whole night, and when i woke up, there was some pooled water underneath. So its waterproof, crazy warm, and super comfy. What else could you ask for?
I took this sleeping pad with us on a kayak trip in the Back Water Canoe Area in MN. This sleeping pad worked great. Our camping site was less than flat and had a number of rocks. After a long day of fishing and kayaking this sleeping pad inflated quickly and easily and made the less than perfect spot the tent was on not so bad at all. I slept well and woke up feeling great. I would recommend this to anyone doing some recreational camping and hiking.
Staying off the ground is the name of the game. With Big Agnes you get what you pay for with its Dual Core Technology and insulation, keeps you from a restless night due to underneath ground cold. Since I already have one I know the benefit of this pad and now my son does as well. Thanks Moosejaw for the great products, prices, and rewards program.
I bought this bad and a Big Agnes Lost Ranger bag. I was a bit hesitant to buy a bag that required a pad like this but it was wonderful. The pad itself is very comfortable and doesn't weight too much. I normally hate sleeping in bags because I am kind big (6'2" 230)I toss and turn ending up half on half off my pad and like to sleep on my side. This pad slides into the bag and stays in place all night (or weekend. I can sleep on my side comfortably. I love it!
