"light warm weather pad" 10/09/11

if your looking for a pad that provides any insulation what-so-ever look else where. other than that i have taken this pad a number of times and it works pretty well. its comfortable, and easy to blow up. the one thing i didnt really like is that when you deflate it the material seems to stick to itself and prevents the air from getting out, all in all though im happy i bought it for a summer pad.

"Nice Light Pad" 06/03/11

This pad is very comfortable compared to the self-inflating and close cell foam pad alternatives. Both my wife and I can sleep on our sides with this pad! I have used mine on numerous trips to the sierra nevada's and to Kenya. So far it has stood up without any leaks. My dad's however, got a slow leak in it. The good thing about this pad as opposed to other inflatables is that it is easy to fix. You can either use platypus patches or superglue! At 11 oz and around 50 dollars this pad is hard to beat for warm weather trips.

"A little too flimsy and squishy to inspire confidence." 01/30/11

I am 6'8" and 230lbs so bought the mummy style 20" x 78". It weighs about 15oz and took 18 breaths and 2 minutes to inflate. It arrived in a loose mesh bag and no repair kit. Its thin and flimsy which makes me reluctant to take it into the field. The material is clear plastic but feels a little rubbery to the touch which makes its a bit tacky and a bit strechy which detracts from its firmness. It is quiet but it was too squishy for my weight. It would not provide any warmth or insulation in the winter. I feel it would make a great warm weather pad for anyone under 190lbs.

"Warm weather only." 06/22/10

Here are a few of my favorite things about it. It's pretty light and the surface has a tacky feel so you won't slide off in the middle of the night. Since it has no insulation it's perfect for warm weather camping but you'll want a different pad once the temps dip low.The only downside for me was in the shape I picked. This was my first pad and over the years I've decided I prefer a full rectangular pad. I still use this one in warm months but since I'm 6'4" and a side sleeper I sometimes wish I'd bought the rectangular pad.Bonus: If you hold it upright at night a good distance from the rest of the group and shine a light behind it, it looks like a ghost.

"Crazy light, comfy, sweet" 08/07/09

This piece may not turn out to be the most durable piece of gear I own, but for 11 oz (for the 60") and 2.5 inches of air to sleep on I'll happily replace it sometime down the road. No problems after nights in Canyonlands, Rocky Mountain NP and a few other here and there. Right out of the box the pad was really sticky and a bit noisey. This has subsided as it has gotten a bit of use. Love it.

"Deceptive - 6 ounces not 4.5" 11/06/08

If you are an ultralight backpacker the Platypus Big Zip SL 3 Liter Hydration System is deceptive. They claim that the hydrator is 4.5 ounces period, but when I received the system it was 6 ounces. I called Platypus and they said you have to take the top part off to get the 4.5 ounces. Take the top part off! Why don’t they say this! It would not have been worth the change from my Camelback. It seems like a great system, but ultralight backpackers be forewarned!
