I'm a big fan of the integrated pad/bag solution, which BA popularized and a few others are now doing too (thermarest, nemo, feathered friends). IMO it's a small weight and medium price penalty for a huge gain in comfort.I'm 6'0" and about 215 lbs. I could probably squeeze into a smaller bag, but why be uncomfortable? This bag with the right pad (e.g., neoair or q core) is a luxury bed for car camping while still being light enough and compressible enough to take backpacking (at least for me, I'm not a SUL guy).My two critiques are (1) BA hasn't updated the Park series in years. They have such good tech now, and I'd love to see it introduced to the bigger bags. Imagine how light and pack-able an 850 fill water-resistant down version of this would be. (2) I would lose the "pillow sleeve." It just never hits me at the right spot.
I love my BA Lost Dog Primaloft bag(discontinued), but like the width of this bag. To me, Primaloft is more down-like than Quallofil. I'm 5'10" 260 & have plenty of room in BA Park-series bags (I can almost stick my knee out at a 90 degree angle). This bag is light & compressible (BA doesn't use insulation in the bag's bottom). They have been doing this for years and other companies are just now catching on & copy-catting. Your pad provides the insulation on the bottom. This is good because you can reduce the weight of the bag & you can customize the warmth of the bag by using pads with different R-values. If you are fat, live in Alaska, use a R-7 pad, you would probably be comfortable at 30 deg in this bag. If you live in Phoenix, weigh 90 pounds, and use a R-0 pad, this bag would be comfortable at 70 deg. For me, its good for 60-70 deg with R-0 pad (great for summer nights in the south), or 50-60 degrees with an R-5 pad (late spring, early fall). Works as overbag too.
I have always been an avid camper. For the past ten years I have been camping with my Scout Troop in the middle of the Arcadia Woods. Having reliable equipment is a must. I am considered a large person and this product down not make me feel cramped. I highly recommend this product.
I bought this for a roomier summer bag, with the potential to use as an overbag for cooler camping. I have been very pleased with the comfort rating and have not had any chilling nights sleep in weather down to the low 30's. For it's price, and material; I am very surprised with it's weight and how much it compresses. The little bit rougher inside doesn't seem to bother me, but someone used to only sleeping on luxury cotton might find them a little rough. Another thing that is awesome about Big Agnes is when I first took this bag out on a 5 day Boundary Water's Canoe trip the zipper was busted. Once I got home I contacted Big Agnes customer service and they sent me a new bag and let me keep the defected one. I spent $20 at an upholstery shop and they fixed the zipper so I have a bag that cost $20 bucks and 5 nights camping without a zipper.
"This is a very nice, large 3 season sleeping bag/winter overbag!"
This bag is very nice for 3 season camping. There's plenty of room for us larger people. The bag is reasonably lightweight and easily fits the sleeping bag compartment in my backpack, in it's stuff sack. The pad sleeve is nice for keeping your pad(s) secure, and has a slit in the foot so you can reach inside and pull your pad into place. The zipper works smoothly but is low on the side and takes some getting used to. As a winter overbag, my -25 oversized synthetic fits easily. Attached pillow sleeve is nice and can be stuffed with extra clothes instead of a pillow. Interior material is a little "crisp", but I use a silk bag liner.
