wonderful pack for monster loadsI bought this pack from Moosejaw last June. I used it for a single 150 mile, 8 day trip through some of the more remote regions of the Ansel Adams Wilderness area and environs. I carried about 40 pounds. The Bergans Alpinist is a very comfortable pack, and also very well constructed. At no point did I feel any discomfort. I should add that after many years of mountain guiding, I had developed a permanent right shoulder 'knot' that made carrying packs miserable. The Bergans pack did not aggravate my use 'injury'; in fact, I never felt it at all. This is a relatively heavy pack, but I have found lighter packs insufficient in terms of both durability and comfort. I am 6'6" tall and I weigh 190 lbs. The Bergans 110 fits me fine. It adjusts very nicely to just about any size within its range. I plan to use it this winter for some longish ski tours, as well. In my view, this is the best pack money can buy... I've used the Bozeman made 'Mystery Ranch' packs, and the Bergans pack is in that league and, in my experience, even better in terms of overall design, durability, and comfort.
