I've backpacked throughout the northwest for 2 years as a professional outdoors youth guide with these boots, it got so that I had to replace them because the back was worn out. Then I did another 600 miles on the AT. I refuse to even consider another brand or even another model. They have kept me dry up the my ankles going through creeks, I've carried over 1/3 of my weight with these babies on and even though I've had several sprained ankles I imagine it would have been much worse without the stability of these shoes. Some people don't like them because they are definitely heavier than most hiking boots, but I think the extra weight it worth it if you are carrying a heavy pack and plan on doing some long distance, long days of hiking. Their breath-ability is average in summer, I definitely take them off right when I get to camp - but they've never been so hot that I've had to think about my feet getting sweaty so I couldn't hike and perfect in all the other three seasons.
These boots are exactly what they should be. They are waterproof, comfortable, and durable. I wore them all the way from Virginia snow to Philippines mud and they were great. I would definitely recommend them to a hiker.
these boots are durable, and the high ankle helped protect me from hurting my ankle numerous times on rocky trails. however, i am a 7.5 size , i got these for 6.5 , they fit perfectly without weight. however, while i was backpacking with these, my toenails all turned black from hitting on the front toe room of the boot. i guess a 7 size would have been perfect. overall, i still think these are great boots give you protect, waterproof. and dont feel that heavy while hiking at all. the soles offered great traction as well over wet surface rocks.
I absolutely love my boots. I go to school in Maine and feel comfortable wearing them to class on snowy or rainy days, or even just on cold days. My feet never get too hot indoors, but they stay totally warm outside. They're also perfect for hiking, and they break in really quickly. I would recommend these for all types of people, and for a lot of different activities. I'm not a super intense hiker, and these are perfect.10 out of 10 stars, would totally recommend.
These boots are perfect for winter hiking, backpacking, and camping. I have another pair of Asolos that are more breathable, for summer hiking, but these are my go-to boots for warmth and durability. They're great in the snow -- either for straight hiking or for use with snowshoes. My feet always stay dry! I pair them with SmartWool hiking socks for added warmth.
"Killer Arch and Ankle support, No break in, tough ass boot!"
This boot was true to size, and width, is designed and manufactured with a eye for detail and super comfortable! Look, my last two unnamed brand boots lasted 10+ years so this boot has to be tough to make the grade. I give it an A++++ for mountaineering ability, it can scale any sick terrain yet it causes no pain. (I am a poet and did not know it)! Anyway, I have the most %$*#@ feet, super skinny ankles, supper high arches and have to have foot beds for any ski boot etc., but this boot provides awesome ankle support, no heel slippage and provides an experience like walking on water or light fluffy clouds!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE BOOT AND MOOSEJAW! I LOOOOVE THE BOOT AND MOOSEJAW TOO!
I have used these on two separate hiking trips in the Smoky Mountains and they did not disappoint. I'm usually a size 8 and I bought an 8.5 and arch support (high arches). I have not gotten a single blister. They provide great ankle support as well. I waterproofed before both trips. I did some shallow river crossings in these and gaiters, and they held up incredibly (not that I'm recommending this). Basically, buy these. They are totally, totally worth every penny.
"Good boots if you need heavy duty ankle support"
Asolo is just a great brand hands down. I bought these for backpacking in alaska. I was carrying a ridiculously heavy pack and these served me well. However you don't need heavy duty boots like these unless you are doing some epic hikes. for anything on a trail these would be overkill.
I purchased these boots four years ago for a 45-day backpacking trip. They performed marvelously across every terrain type encountered: tundra, tussocks, river beds, bushwhacking, errthang! I did not break them in as much as I probably should have prior to the trip; however, I never got nasty blisters. Four other women on my trip also had these boots: we are obsessed with them. The one problem encountered by anyone was that one of the lace grommets toward the front of the boot popped out (but out of 5 pairs of these, and that was the only issue? Pretty neat!). I have since worn these boots on a number of multi-day backpacking trips, and have never had an issue.
Can't say enough how awesome these boots are. They took about 30 km worth of hiking to break them in with a few pressure points and blisters, but now they are perfect. Your feet stay nice and warm (even when you are standing in a creek for a few minutes...which you can do since they are 100% waterproof) and the cushioning and support are superb with a heavy pack on. Quite good grip on ice/snow and slippery rocks. The leather and Goretex won't breathe though, so get a decent pair of socks to help compensate.
I picked up a pair of the Men's Asolo's for myself to replace some long worn boots and my wife got jealous. I picked these up for her for Christmas and she was thrilled. They fit phenomenally out of the box and are even better once they are broken in. They ar a little stiff new, but provide a lot of support and are the best out there we've found.
