Logged many miles backpacking in these boots in the short time i've had them. They've gotten a little scuffed up, but other than that they are fine. Keep my feet warm and dry, haven;t had any problems with blisters/hot spots either.
If you're looking for a mid weight gortex hiker this boot is an outstanding choice, I've had mine for about ten years and they're just now reaching the end of their usefull life. I use other boots for light hiking so it's hard to estimate the mileage on the Asolos, but I think it's safe to say "a bunch". They have remained reliably waterproof, which is more than I can say for a couple of day hikers, and have always been very comfortable. These boots are great for packing about 50 pounds or simply day hiking longer distances 15 to 20 miles.
This boot has weathered 5 years of adventures and the goretex lining is still completely waterproof. These babies have kept my feet cozy on snowshoe treks and desert excursions. The durable exterior can withstand High Sierra granite scrambles. I'm eminently satisfied and just purchased a 2nd pair.
"Comfort right out of the box, good workmanship, works as advertised"
Beautiful fit and finish, zero break-in time. Used on mixed surface trails, granite chips, clay found in equatorial rainforest. Either with no luggage or an 18 kilo back pack. These puppies were perfectly fit out of the box and tuned into foot/limb articulation with no hot spots, binding pressure spots and zero blisters. They're so comfy that i'm using them in the office. A definite keeper.
These boots were recommended to me by an experienced mountaineer as "the best boots in the world." Naturally, I was interested...and skeptical. But they actually are the most comfortable and durable boot on the market. I expect to get 10 years of casual hiking in the Smoky Mountains out of these.
"I can't believe that I have these feelings for a boot."
Just received my TPS 520's (on time, product in great condition, Big up's Moosejaw). Tried them on to see if I'd get the same feeling I did when trying them on in the store. I didn't want to take them off then, and I don't want to take them off now. The fit is true, and the support is unbelievable. Makes me stand taller and erect (Keep clean thoughts, LOL!). Can't Wait till my first hike.
If you want a boot that keeps the rocks and roots from bruising your feet, this is a good one. The price is a bit high but they are built to last; these are an investment. I've had mine for a few years now and they still function like new.
These boots are great. They will last as long as you take care of them and replace the soles as needed.A nice dark brown leather, waterproof, great ankle support and a solid name behind them. You'll enjoy them. I recommend trying them on if possible (or returning them via Moosejaw's awesome return/exchange program) to make sure they are the correct fit for you. I'd make this recommendation for any boot though.
