The Men's Flame GTX Hiking Boot by Asolo uses a blend of water-resistant suede and high-tenacity nylon to withstand all the abuses of a season in the backcountry. If any moisture manages to get through the tough exterior, it's stopped cold by the waterproof breathable Gore-Tex insert. Asolo used a Matrix sole with Active Heel Support to make the Flame GTX Hiking Boot a solid choice when you have to carry a lot of gear or travel on rough terrain.

"Kilimanjaro never had a chance" 10/24/11
Greatest boots I've ever owned! Worth the $. Although they basically don't need breaking in, I put 8-10 miles on them before climbing Kilimanjaro. On the hike (about 60 miles), I barely realized I was wearing boots because they’re so comfortable. I paired them with Smartwool liners & socks and never felt a hotspot. Kept my feet warm when it was cool, cool when it was hot, and always dry. The great thing about Kilimanjaro is it offers such diverse terrain so it’s a great test for boots, and they mastered it all. They’re the perfect hiking boots for almost anything not requiring crampons. And, if you need boots to wear around the city, or on rainy or snowy days, these are perfect for that too.
"Greatest footwear company" 07/07/11
This is my second pair of Asolo boots. First pair is showing a little wear on the soles after wearing them almost daily for 5 years. I wore these boots so much my family informed me that I was not allowed to wear them to formal functions. My new pair is so comfortable right out of the box, just like my first pair, like someone broke them in before shipping.
"dependable, able boots" 05/08/11
these boots took zero breakin time for me. sole is nice and stiff which works well with crampons on moderate snow. toebox slightly wider than typical asolo boot but still nice and narrow for more able climbing. highly recommend these for lighter pack multiday backpacking trips, but your feet will feel the pain if you push your pack weight over 50 lbs. lightweight and trim enough to walk into a bar without feeling like a dick.
"If Jesus Wore Hiking Boots, He'd Wear These" 02/15/11
When it comes to picking out a pair of shoes, I generally put quality first over price. I was very hesitant with Asolo's Flame GTX because I wasn't able to try it on before I ordered them. But my faith in Moosejaw's customer service gave me the confidence to pull the trigger on these bad boys. Right out of the box, they looked like Thor had hammered them out of gold and silver bars. The construction and design of these boots are top-notch and I can say with certainty that I got what I paid for. Beyond the expected break-in period, these boots are comfortable and quite light. I generally wear size 9 1/2 to 10 shoes. I went with 9 1/2 and the fitting was true.
"Treat yourself to this boot" 11/09/10
I've only ever purchased $500 to $100 boots, and you get what you pay for. When I bought these boots and first put my foot on them, I swore I'd never skimp again. This shoe is first and foremost, lighter than you'd expect. It looks heavier than it feels by far. Second, you'll notice how your foot is supported from your heel and ball up through the toes. It feels like a ski boot and a hiking boot mated and made this shoe. The sole is rigid - just walking up stairs and then rocky inclines you feel like you could step up just using the first 2" of the sole. Toes do not slide forward into toe cup either, which was a big plus for me. 4 stars.
