I've had this for a year now and it has seen me through all four seasons. Fantastic performance in all conditions, totally water resistant and wind proof. Breathability is great. The only thing robbing it of the fifth start is that the integral hood is a bit too generously shaped and has no obvious may of pulling it in or tensioning so it falls about. It would be even better therefor if this hood was detachable (not that it is any problem down in dry conditions) and especially if there was cord adjustment to tighten it up in use.
I have bought both Beta AR jacket and pants and fell in love with Arcteryx! They have really high quality products. Gore-tex membran works perfectly. Real protection from wind. I have tested it all in Patagonia/Tierra del Fuego weather. 2 pockets in each side are great size, many things fit there (I used to carry gloves, sunglasses, wallet). I bought medium size and I think it fit very well (with room for other layers of fleece etc). (1,74m, 65kg).
This jacket has served me well. I wear it everyday and I have never gotten wet wearing it and that means a lot considering I live in Ketchikan and Juneau Alaska which is one of the rainiest places on earth. The breathability is nice. I have also worn it as an outershell while skiing and it worked great.
I love this jacket! You can't go wrong with Arc'teryx! It fits try to size. I'm 5'6, 140 pounds, muscular build with broad shoulders and it fits perfect! The articulated elbows makes moving in this jacket super easy. I use this as a shell for skiing and rainy cold weather. I absolutely love it!
This is the best winter shell I have ever owned. Do yourself a favor and make the investment. It's tailored so that even if you buy a size up for layering, it'll still look flattering when you use it as a rain jacket.
I've worn this baby on a multi day trek up a volcano in Alaska, in the rainforest in Costa Rica and backcountry in the middle of winter in Wyoming and California and sightseeing in Vancouver and Seattle in the pouring rain and each time its kept me toasty warm and protected from the rain and wind... Yes, its expensive... but you'll probably never need another jacket again.. this is my go to whenever I travel, no matter where Im heading!
"I have never gotten wet wearing this shell."
I bought this jacket over a year ago. I live in Southeast Alaska which is some of the rainiest conditions in the country. Averaging almost 200 inches a year where I live. In Southeast we are very particular about our rain-gear since no one carries umbrellas. (It is too windy and inly tourists do that) This is my most reliable rain jacket that I bring out on the wettest of days. I have to stand on a boat dock and wait for a boat to pick me up from work since I work on an island and have always felt confident that I will stay dry in this one. A very good purchase. I have also used this as a shell for when I go skiing sometimes and it works great for that as well. I bought a medium and it seems to run slightly big but It just leaves me room for layering which is nice. A good buy, indeed.
"Kept me warm hiking in over 10K elevation, and I freeze easily."
I layered this jacket with a merino wool tee, and a fleece, and it has kept me warm on many occasions. It blocks the wind perfectly. We were hiking in the mountains in NM in late october, and Rocky Mountain National Park in late november. The hood can be adjusted which was great, so I could make it fit snug around my head since I did not need a helmet hiking. My husband basically chose it for me, and he call himself a "gearhead". I love it.
"Fantastic for everyday to skiing the slopes"
Just bought this jacket in a local store (they were sold out of the size/color combo I wanted online) and it is fantastic! I have used it a couple times in the rain just walking around campus. The fit and cut are perfect, I do wish the pockets were a little lower but its not a deal breaker. Based on friends that have this jacket they love it as a shell for spring skiing and I plan on testing it out for that later in the year. All around a great jacket, even at the high price, try to snag one while its on-sale!
I LOVE this jacket! Not only is it functional, warm, breathable, light and waterproof, but it looks great as well! I get compliments on this coat all the time! I got the Blackberry and it is a perfect color of purple! I have been holding out on buying an Arcteryx coat because they are so pricey but I wish I had bought one sooner. This coat is worth every penny! I got the Medium and I am 5"6" 145 pounds with an athletic build and it fits perfectly.
