"Everything I was looking for in a winter hiking pant."
I bought these pants because of the full length zipper which is actually quite hard to find on women's pants. I like having the control over ventilation. That being said, these pants make great hiking pants because they are waterproof, wind blocking, and the zipper allows for great ventilation during the ascent. Just don't go commando in them. Or do. Up to you I guess. The fit is really good. Because they are not insulated, they are not as bulky as other winter pants, and more versatile because I can choose which baselayer I want under them. I used to hike in "lightly" insulated pants and they were way too hot 99% of the time. The built in gaiter is rugged and works well. I have walked through shallow water with them and very deep snow. In either case the gaiter kept the elements out. I'd get another pair.
