OK. So of all of my talents, thermoregulation is not one of them. For a few years I've been winter hiking. I pour sweat all the way up the mountain, and then it all turns to ice at the top. This vest is the PERFECT buffer for my wild temperature swings. It is paper thin, but outrageously warm. My core stays perfect all day long, and should the weather really take a turn for the worst, it fits easily under almost anything. The sizing is a little odd, as always with Arcteryx. I am 5'6" and about 120 lbs, I usually wear a small in most things but I got a medium to make sure it was long enough and that I could fit a fleece under it. I'm pretty happy with the medium. I'd recommend getting whatever size you usually buy your sweatshirts in. I'm not out to impress in the dead of winter, so a tight slim fit wasn't my goal. Its been getting in the negative temps here in New England, so I wear this vest under my down jacket sometimes for added warmth. A must have!!
I purchased the "atom" jacket when it was first released and loved it so much that I bought the vest too! This vest is comfortable enough to be worn thru 3 seasons and it works great under the "atom" jacket for extra warmth (which you probably wont need because that jacket it plenty warm) or for layering purposes. Ive taken this vest from the ocean to the mountains and put simply, it's the best vest I have ever owned. Arcteryx doesn't disappoint!
