Wind, rain, snow and sleet, N80p-X GORE-TEX® Pro 3L fabric is there to shield you from the worst weather the mountain has to offer in a e3D patterned jacket that promotes natural movement. Climbing specific features such as the Harness Hemlock™ and highly placed crossover pockets make being on the mountain just a little bit simpler, keeping the jacket in place under your harness and pocket accessibility. WaterTight™ zippers resist leaks at the front and pockets, so you and your small personal items stay drier. Throw up the StormHood™ and adjust the Velcro® cuffs when wind and rain are at their worst and open the pit zips when your own physical exertion requires body heat to be released quickly. Make the mountaintop yours, even if only for a moment.

FIT TYPE INFO and DETAILS:
Next to Skin Fit - These snugly-fitting garments are made with stretch fabrics to fit next to the skin to enhance moisture management and thermal efficiency. Garments in this fit category when constructed using Arc'teryx's heavier-weight AR and SV fabrics also perform very well as mid layer pieces, and users should consider selecting a larger size to accommodate a base layer underneath if the intention is to use this layering system as a mid layer option.
Trim Fit - Trim-fitted garments share the motion-friendly traits with Arc'teryx "Athletic" fit garments, but are patterned with lower volume for reduced bulk. These close-fitting pieces layer well under other garments.
Athletic Fit - This is the "Arc'teryx Standard" fit. These complete patterns utilize anatomical shaping and gussets to enhance motion by minimizing excess bulk. Easy layering under or over each item extends seasonal versatility and comfort.
Relaxed Fit - Relaxed fit garments rely on higher volume patterns and a reduced amount of articulation to offer roomy mobility.
Expedition Fit - Cut roomier than the Arc'teryx Athletic fit and suitable for winter/extreme conditions, Expedition (XPD) fit garments are cut larger to accommodate multiple layers without binding or restricting movement.
• You can find the fit type and additional fit info for Arc'teryx styles in the product description FEATURES and SPECIFICATIONS.

Great weather protectionBought this jacket to serve as a shell for skiing, hiking and general outdoor use. Haven't used it for an extended time in bad weather yet, but the jacket did great in a heavy 5 min rain - just beads off. Keeps the warmth in, does great blocking wind and the hood stays put. Love the adjustable cuffs which are a definite must for anyone on the shorter side. Length falls at the hips and rides up a little when I raise my arms, so we'll have to see if that causes any problems when skiing-but this could just be related to the jacket I've been trying to use underneath which is too big for me. Being a busty size 12/14 I guess I was hoping for a little more wiggle room, but I can still fit a sweater and layering jacket underneath so no complaints.

WA outdoor enthusiast from
Awesome shellI was totally waffling between this jacket and the Patagonia Alpine and I'm so glad I forked over a little more cash to get the Arcteryx SV. The previous reviews were spot on in terms of quality. Although the color is still a bit bright for my tastes (I got the blue/purple), the jacket is way more practical and comfortable. Not as stiff as the Patagonia and feels like it will last my lifetime, which it should given the price. It easily fits over a down sweater or fleece and although I'm not wearing it to Everest, it will see a lot of use in out NW wet cold seasons.

Hey there, I'd like to know what the main differences are between the Alpha SV and the Alpha AR. Thanks!
Asked by: ValeEm
Thanks for the question. The Alpha SV is specifically designed for severe weather conditions, while the AR is more of an all-around jacket. The AR is geared more towards climbing and alpine adventures and tends to have a bit more of a softer fabric. The SV's primary material is N80p-X Gore-Tex Pro, which is uber tough and a bit stiffer when worn. Which jacket works best for you would depend on what activities you are planning and how hard you are on your gear.
