The Men's Alpha SV Jacket by Arcteryx is designed for severe weather protection during epic climbs. The Alpha SV has a drop back hem for rear coverage while allowing front-point visibility. Polyester-faced Gore-Tex Pro Shell fabric and a Storm Hood seal out moisture and wind, while the harness HemLock keeps the jacket from lifting out of the harness while climbing.

Good fit through the chest, but upper arms are very baggy. Probably done for layering, but I could fit my thigh in there....

"Great, but needs a powder skirt" 		          06/18/09
I have used this jacket multiple times and it works amazing provided you are not doing things in deep powder. I have used it for skiing and some backcountry hiking and the only complaint I have is that it does not have a powder skirt. Great jacket if you have bib pants, but if you dont I would advise getting a jacket with either a powder skirt or that is a bit longer.

"Almost 5 stars" 		          11/05/08
Firstly, I own the black version of this shell and it is made in Canada, if anyone was curious. I'm really happy that such an expensive shell hasn't been outsourced yet. I'm 6'5" and the XL fits the arm length great! (a common problem with tall people.. getting arm length without chest/waist bulk). The only problem I have with this product is that the material around the neck - right where the zipper connects to the shell - is a bit "puffy". This means that when you zip it up and get to the neck, the material on the inside gets caught under the zipper and you have to backtrack the zipper to fix it. Hopefully this fixes itself with a fleece underneath, but we'll see

I am impressed. The jacket is exactly what I wanted, it looks great! The website was very easy to use and everything arrived on time and was exactly what I expected. The ARC'TERYX ALPHA SV JACKET is rock !!!!!!!!!! I have several Arc'teryx jackets and this one is the best of all. Today, i have climbed the Old Rack Summit @ Shenandoah National Park ... All I can say it keeps me warm and comfortable in high strong winds and severe cold weather. Seeing is not believing... you 've got to try and you won't regret it !

I don't think it gets any better than this jacket. You can adjust the hood in three different ways so it stays in place in high winds. It is very strong and comfortable. I had no problem with the length, and it was easy to operate th underarm zippers with a backpack on.
