Much better than expectedUpgraded from the older model to this 2011 version and don't regret it one bit. No more drawstring opening (you get a full zipper now) and it's even lighter than before, which I didn't think possible. The shoulder straps are no longer padded and there is no sternum strap but this did not prove to be a problem when I did my half marathon with this bag. I would recommend packing this bag with you on all your trips as it makes a great secondary bag for that last dash to the summit or longer trail runs. My only suggestion to make this perfect: a foam back pad like its 35L bigger brother would make the 18L less flimsy and earn a 5/5 from me.

better than you expected, so versatileThe old, super-simple big-hole-drawstring model was excellent in its own way. This redesign adds some features that pay off. Instead of the drawstring -- which flopped around when closed -- there are now two waterproof-zipper-ed compartments. And there's now a kind of flat "wand" halfway around the middle of the pack. Is it for clipping on hardware? Is it a hand-hold? Or is it just there to give the bag stiffness and volume? Dunno. But the bag feels more substantial somehow. If you want a padded back, get the Cierzo 25 (or 35) model. If you want light and simple, get this.,,

Great daypack. It's a small pack. Smaller than I realized. But that's what I like about it. You can wear it and not know its there. My chalk bag, harness, shoes and gear all fit with room to spare in the main pocket. The smaller pocket has ample space for phone, wallet, keys, and quite a few more small items. The main pocket also has a small pouch inside of it for whatever. The straps aren't padded, but with the space of this pack, you'd have to TRY to load it heavy enough to wear it wouldn't be comfortable. Great design. I can't wait to get years out of this pack. Good work Arc'Teryx.

I take it with me everywhere I go. However, it is no longer water resistant. This bag was great for the years I owned it. It became known as the Mary Poppins bag by me and my friends as it always seemed like I could stuff more crap into it. However, the water repellency failed and it is now being warrantied by Arc'Teryx. I would not buy this bag again for long term water repellency, but the bag itself looks new even 3 years later. I don't generally bother with DWR and just use urethane bags like the Arro 22, but you might have luck if you have a can of that stuff on hand.
