Best features of all Altra shoes into oneThis shoe has improved looks, more minimalist than Lone Peak, and better fitting around narrow feet like mine. You cannot go wrong with these shoes if you love to trail run.

Not What I Was Hoping ForI bought these shoes a couple weeks ago in a size 9, which is what my foot typically fits in. However, my shoe size is actually 9EE. I have a high arch and a high instep which virtually no brand makes a shoe for. New Balance has made some in the past but I don't like their current shoe line. I was referred to Altras by a couple of people, stating that Altra makes shoes with a wide foot box. Upon purchasing these shoes, my first impression was, WOW they look like the trail shoe I've been searching for! Great tread, stylish but not too overdone, 0 heel drop. I squeezed these on and was crestfallen. Even with their "wide foot box" my foot was compressed uncomfortably. So, I exchanged them for a 9.5. Although I knew they'd be a little long, I had high hopes for more wiggle room. Alas, the 9.5 size was virtually the same fit as the 9s. There is no way the rock guards (plastic inserts that can optionally be used with this shoe) would fit in which is another cool feature I would've enjoyed. The reason why I am going on about sizing is that, from what I understand, Altra shoes were designed for long distance running where a runner's foot swells and expands inside the shoe. I am a long distance runner/hiker myself and would've really appreciated this philosophy of running footwear in the Altras that I just purchased. So, I will be returning these and stick to the only thing that is working for me right now, my Shamma Mountain Goat sandals.
