Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and Comfy! This chair weighs about the same as 18 ounces of water! I love this chair. I live at the beach, and have used it almost every day all summer for about 4 years. Most people lug their heavy, bulky chairs down the beach, but I tuck this little chair in my backpack, walk way down the beach to a quiet spot, and set up like magic. It sinks a bit into the sand, making an even more stable seat. Find a big rock, slip it into the bag, and lace the bag into the chair during set-up. This keeps the chair from flying away in the breeze. Slide a sarong over your lap so you don't feel like people are looking up your skirt. Don't even try to sit facing a downward slope, or you will take a tumble. I wouldn't trade it for any other chair!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact, Comfortable, Light-weight, Portable This camp chair satisfies all the criterion I look for in outdoor equipment. It's very comfortable and allows one to rock back in the chair. True you have to sorta balance with your feet, but the tradeoff in weight and portability is worth it. We take this chair car camping as well as to outdoor festivals. Easy to always keep a pair packed and tucked under the trunk floorboard, ready for whenever we want to break out an easy chair and sit on the lawn or marina somewhere. We like it so much, we have a pair in each vehicle and sent chairs out to my family members as well. Despite being the best engineered, most portable, compact comfortable camp chair I've ever seen, it's a tad too much for backpacking; I've got a Montbell folding pad for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Camping/Backpacking Chair My boys are in Scouts. My older son asked for one of these chairs for Christmas last year. my younger son didn't think he wanted one at the time. He has loved using it so much whilE on Boy Scouts camp outs that he is asking for one this year. It's a great light weight chair for them to lounge around the camp fire without sitting on the ground or disrupting the natural surroundings...(aka dragging logs to sit on). We highly recommend this chair & the sale price at MJ makes it all the better!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Expensive amusement for your friends. Don't buy. This chair works on a flat, rigid surface, for an occupant under 4 feet tall, who is prepared to sit motionless. For the real world, not so much. It is too low. On any kind of slope, it twists. Any sudden motion and your hand hits the dirt to keep you from falling over, along with dinner. Reaching for something? Good luck. When your companions find out how this works, they will hand you stuff… keeping it just out of reach. You reach farther and farther until… Plop! Hilarity ensues.,,,,After 3 nights, even that poor functionality failed. The uprights are each a metal tube with a smaller tube inside that fits into the feet; this keeps it together. The smaller tube of one of the uprights slid into the upright, then the chair would come apart (Plop! Hahaha!!). It could be fixed the first couple of times by pulling out the small tube, then finally it sank too deep and the chair was completely unusable. Everyone was sad… my team had to find someone else to laugh at.,,,,Don’t buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Better than sitting on the ground Pros: Slightly better than sitting on the ground. Lightweight and small, so very easy to pack. Cons: There are only two legs. You have to constantly support yourself to stay balanced, making it difficult to just sit back and relax after a long day of hiking. As mentioned in other reviews, the chair needs to be on a very flat surface or it will topple over (with you in it).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Alite Monarch is unexpectedly comfortable with its deep seat position and provides welcome rest after long days on the trail. It also is more practical than it appears as you can shift your weight farther back so it is more of a stool allowing for essential activities like lighting stoves and eating without getting noodles on your snap to be performed. Compared to conventional folding chairs, it is obviously lighter and more packable but still can be used at block parties and soccer games. However, when it comes to the backcountry, it is rather heavy. Personally, I find the difference negligible when ,for example, bike packing and believe the product is worth the weight on slower paced overnighters when significant time around the campfire is expected though cannot justify it on high mileage multiday backpacking trips where the priority is a quick meal and then sleep. Overall, the chair is well constructed, quick to set up and stable enough to be used on most surfaces with a little balance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can't get it away from my kids!!! I bought this chair to take on a backpacking trip and for scout campouts. My two boys love it so much that I never get to sit in it. So I just bought both of them one for their birthdays and maybe dad can get his chair back. It is without a doubt the most comfortable chair I own.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light weight chair if you can justify the price I took this out the first time on a 3 day hike. It packs up small, weighs next to nothing and is comfortable to sit in once you figure out how to sit in it. The best part is that while everyone else was sitting in the dirt, I had a nice chair to relax in.
