Assistant Shop Managers, Chicago, Boulder & Michigan market

I didn't go to college in Chicago, Boulder or anywhere in Michigan, but some of my friends did. When I would visit them, they'd take me to frat parties. It was a decent time.

We're looking for assistant managers for some of our shops, including our brand new Boulder, CO location opening in April. You know the drill. Our assistant shop managers help manage the shop and staff. They also have an enthusiastic, fun and positive attitude while assisting customers with sales and product information. Many of them can dance pretty well. And some have decent hopscotch skills.

Things we'd like you to bring to the table:
  • Open schedule availability
  • A good sense of humor, a creative mindset and a passion for customer service
  • 2+ years of retail/sales experience preferred
  • Outdoor gear knowledge also preferred

Things we'll bring to the table:
  • Incredible employee discounts on Moosejaw merchandise
  • Cool work environment. Coworkers are genuinely fun to be around. Especially me.
  • Great 401(k) and benefit package. I know blah, blah, blah. So boring.
  • How to Apply:
Email your resume or Moosejaw application to jobs@moosejaw.com. Although we'd like to think we're psychic, we're really not. So please make sure you let us know which position you're applying for by writing Boulder, Chicago, or Michigan in the subject line of your email. I hate quotation marks.

    Assistant Buyer, Hardgoods

Moosejaw is the most fun outdoor retailer ever. We sell the finest gear and outerwear through our seven retail shops in Michigan and Illinois, our mail order catalog and Moosejaw.com. At Moosejaw our goal is to make shopping as much fun as climbing in the Himalayas. Not that climbing in the freezing cold weather is fun but you know what we mean.

We're seeking an Assistant Buyer to add to our purchasing department based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. Essentially the job entails assisting the Buyer. That's how we got the job title. I wanted to call this job Partner in Assistant Buyership, but the buyers nixed the idea. Apparently buyership isn't a word. So much for creative liberty. The buyers proposed the title The Cupcake Fad is So Over and I'm an Assistant Buyer. I prefer Number 3. But in the end the only thing we could agree upon was Assistant Buyer.

The Assistant Buyer will help the Buyer ensure that all merchandising activities are properly executed, including assisting the Buyer with their assigned product categories and execution of Moosejaw's merchandising vision of both the online and brick and mortar businesses. This position requires very strong analytical and quantitative skills, as well as proficiency with Microsoft Excel. It also requires great stress management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Recommended stress relief techniques include yoga, meditation and tap dancing while inebriated. Obviously the tap dancing thing can't be done at work. And please don't ask. Although I can crack my neck in three places, I will not attempt any chiropractic practices on you.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Assisting the Buyer in administrative processes to support category management and drive maximum sales and margin in assigned product categories. Duties include setting up vendors, entering data, processing purchase orders, setting up skus, running reports, managing calendars, and composing correspondence.
  • Assisting the Buyer with development of a vendor mix, including setting up appointments, attending line reviews, and running sales reports
  • Assisting the Buyer in maximizing vendor promotion, events, catalog and support in conjunction with Moosejaw's marketing team to plan promotions and ensure availability of products for promotions
  • Assisting the Buyer in their collaboration with the visual merchandising team to provide stores with direction in merchandising presentation and space allotment
  • Monitoring, evaluating and analyzing business results and product performance to drive sales and profitability
  • Keeping up-to-date on product trends within and outside of Moosejaw's product mix
  • Assisting the buying team with all department-related functions and keeping the Buyer informed on all necessary matters

Things we'd like you to bring to the table:
  • Bachelor's degree in purchasing, merchandising, supply chain, finance or a related field.
  • Work experience in a buying or purchasing related field is not required, but is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word are required
  • Highly organized and detail oriented. Excellent analytical skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. I'm running out of adjectives.
  • Must be extremely self motivated, be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, multiple-priority environment, and be able to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities
  • Whatup bullet point number six

Things we'll bring to the table:
  • Work environment includes good music, jeans and hoodies, my dog, and stuff like that. Coworkers are smart and fun. At least I am.
  • Most coworkers will laugh at your jokes. Even if they're just being polite.
  • You'll never sit in a cubicle. Unless you build one around yourself.
  • Amazing discounts on outdoor apparel, gear and Moosejaw products.
  • A menagerie of funness. Funness includes poker and badminton tournaments, marshmallow eating contests, karaoke, water balloon tosses and the like. I totally know that funness isn't a word, so don't worry.
  • Great 401(k) and benefits package. Slightly boring so I saved this one for last.
  • How to Apply:
Email your resume and salary requirement to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please use job code AB in the subject line of your email so we know what you're applying for. ABC. Easy as 123. Or simple as do re mi. That's all.

    Sales Associates, Natick

We're seeking sales associates to add to our newest store in Natick, Massachusetts opening in late February 2012. This job involves sales, customer service and humans. Or Homo Sapiens and stuff if you prefer to be technical. The technical part of that sentence was the word "stuff."

Moosejaw sales associates have an enthusiastic, fun and positive attitude while assisting customers with sales and product information. A good sense of humor, creative mindset and passion for customer service are needed. Like an I-love-you-so-much-I-want-to-have-a-million-babies-with-you passion for customer service. Plus outdoor gear knowledge is preferred.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume or Moosejaw application to jobs@moosejaw.com. Although we'd like to think we're psychic, we're really not. So please make sure you let us know which position you're applying for by writing Natick in the subject line of your email. Beantown will also do. Is that offensive?

    Moosejaw Models Wanted

We're looking for a few female models, age 18-25, to pose gracefully in the coolest products we carry. Models will be used for in-house photo shoots at our headquarters located in Madison Heights, Michigan. This will be great exposure (and I don't mean indecent by any means) for up-and-coming models as they'll appear in our print, catalog and online material.

  • Modeling experience is preferred.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. No ifs, ands or buts.
  • Michigan applicants only. Although we love the rest of the country, we're quite partial to Michigan. Oh yeah, and Moosejaw will not be paying for expenses to travel to our headquarters. So it'd probably save you a lot of money in gas if you live in state.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume or work history, along with no more than 3 pictures, to models@moosejaw.com. We're very serious about the 3-picture limit, so if you send 4 we'll think you're not great about following directions. Sorry to be so mean.

Please use job code MOD so we know what you're applying for. MOD probably stands for modernization of dinnertime. Or maybe it's model.

Summer Internships Offered at Moosejaw's Headquarters

Internships are a great way to get hands-on experience in your field of study. And I'm not just saying that because we want you to work for us for free. There are so many famous interns who have paved the way for the students of today. Just think Steven Spielberg, Oprah, and Bill Gates all started out as interns. I can just imagine how much better off they could have been with a Moosejaw Internship under their belt. Set your goals high people. In the Netherlands an internship is called a stage. And not just in an analogy type of way. I think it's because an internship is like a high school theater performance. With better props. Enough of this ode to internships. Let's get down to business.

Moosejaw is offering several summer internships opportunities. These internships are based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. They're unpaid internships requiring a 16 - 32 hour/week commitment. The schedule and length of internship is flexible. Students must be able to receive college credit or proof of the educational benefit for their internship experience. Read below for the dets. Or deets. However you prefer.

    Brand Production & Merchandising Internship

The brand production and merchandising intern is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the Moosejaw private label brand and overall company merchandising strategies. The word bran is so close to brand that they're practically neighbors. Like bran muffin would totally live in the same cul-de-sac as brand production. They'd join in a neighborhood brown-food-only potluck and would hang at their other neighbor's pool. Except bran only sunbathes so as not to get soggy.

This internship is based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan, but may require travel to our Michigan shop locations. This is an unpaid internship requiring a 24+ hour/week commitment for the summer. The schedule and length of internship is flexible. Students must be able to receive college credit or proof of the educational benefit for their internship experience.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Organizing and cataloging all Moosejaw private label samples, as well as past and current collection prototypes
  • Assisting with private label data entry related to purchase order entry and tracking, as well as replenishment assortment templates
  • Verifying the accuracy of Moosejaw private label product information on Moosejaw's website
  • Assisting with the execution of the company's overall merchandising vision, including the creation of floorset packets, ordering and executing window displays, creating accurate shop floor maps, creating seasonal look books for the buyers, and suggesting creative ways to implement future visual displays
  • Analyzing the competitive marketplace, including monitoring competitor and vendor websites
  • Internship Requirements:
The brand production and merchandising intern must be extremely organized and detail oriented. Must also have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment, striking the appropriate balance between working independently and keeping supervisor informed. The brand production and merchandising intern must be proficient in MS Excel and have an artistic and design sensibility. Coursework in a design, merchandising or retail field is preferred.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please use job code BP. There's someone at Moosejaw whose real name is BP. That's all.

    Buying Administrative Internship

We're looking for an intern to assist our buying team with their data entry and administrative needs. Our buyers buy stuff. They buy things like apparel, footwear, daypacks and tents. And a lot of other stuff. I'm not going to list all of the other stuff because our buyers like to keep an air of mystery. I wasn't sure if the saying was air of mystery, aire of mystery or error of mystery, so I went with my first instinct. I bet I'm wrong and you're laughing at me right now. Not now. But now.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Contacting vendors to request workbooks, e-order forms, UPC spreadsheets and price lists
  • Updating vendor contact information in Moosejaw's database
  • Collecting vendor agreements
  • Mapping color names in Moosejaw's database
  • Verifying the accuracy of product information on Moosejaw's website
  • Analyzing the competitive marketplace, including monitoring competitor and vendor websites
  • Entering detailed SKU information into UPC spreadsheets
  • Internship Requirements:
The buying administrative intern must be focused, organized and detail oriented. Must also have highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment. Must be proficient in MS Excel and should have an interest in pursuing a purchasing-related career. Outdoor product knowledge is preferred.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com. We are looking to have this intern start as soon as possible. Like right now. Okay maybe not right now. More like sooner vs. later. Please use job code BI. BI could stand for bubblegum indigestion. But it doesn't. I can't tell you what it stands for because of the buyers and their air of mystery. Or error of mystery. Whatever.

    Buying Internship (#2)

It's kind of mean to call this internship #2. This internship is like a middle child. But without the emotionally scaring syndrome. I really just wanted to differentiate between the other buying internship and this one. I guess I could've called this one Purple Rain.

We're looking for an intern to assist our hard goods and apparel buyers with their data entry and administrative needs. If you didn't already read this above, our buyers buy stuff. They buy things like apparel, footwear, daypacks and tents. And a lot of other stuff.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Creating templates in "buyer order upload" format for upcoming seasons
  • Creating replenishment assortment templates
  • Creating and updating vendor contact spreadsheets
  • Submitting approved orders to vendors and un-submitting in Moosejaw's web-based system
  • Following up on and tracking previously placed orders
  • Checking vendor confirmations for accuracy and emailing buyers any discrepancies
  • Checking on backorders and updating buyers via email
  • Verifying the accuracy of product information on Moosejaw's website
  • Checking vendor websites for link and buy now functionality
  • Analyzing the competitive marketplace, including monitoring competitor and vendor websites
  • Internship Requirements:
The buying intern must be focused, organized and detail oriented.

Please use job code #2 in the subject line of your email. Calling it #2 helps remind this internship that it is so close to being number zero. If zero were a real number.

    Internet Operations Internship

We're looking for two internet operations interns to work with Moosejaw's customer service and warehouse management teams. This internship allows students to gain a better understanding of the operational aspects involved in running an internet and catalog business. It's somewhat important that the internet operations intern know the meaning of Life. Not life life. Life as in the cereal. Internship candidates should really dig into the mystery surrounding Raisin Life. Such a shame.

The internship is based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. It's an unpaid internship requiring a 16 -24 hour/week commitment. The schedule and length of internship is flexible. Students must be able to receive college credit OR provide proof of the educational benefit for their internship experience.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Collecting and examining data and statistics in the following areas: daily service levels, production time, sell all, gross sales TY vs. LY, customer service MTD and YTD, fiscal year information and phone reporting
  • Monitoring customer service calls to ensure proper selling techniques are utilized
  • Auditing packages for shipment
  • Assisting with physical inventory, fulfillment, locator system, vendor compliance, training workbook, opening and closing worksheets, supply reordering and housekeeping
  • Planning adequate staffing for the warehouse and scheduling staff appropriately
  • Assisting with projects involving maximizing storage capacity and improving the layout of the warehouse
  • Increasing inventory accuracy by reducing the cancels rate
  • Researching warehouse management systems
  • Helping to build a capital expenditure plan
  • Sorry, this is a really long list
  • Leading and improving warehouse stretching programs to ensure employee safety
  • Motivating staff to have fun at work through daily Moosejaw Madness
  • Assisting with all daily operational needs of the internet business
  • Internship Requirements:
The internet operations intern must be highly organized and detail oriented. Must also have highly developed interpersonal, communication and leadership skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment. Must be able to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, must be proficient in MS Excel. The internet operations intern should have interest in a supply chain management or customer service related career. Outdoor product knowledge and customer service experience is preferred.

Paragraph 2. Hopscotch and butterscotch often confuse me. That's all.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please use job code IO. I have no idea why I chose the job code IO but it may have something to do with the amount of time it takes a chicken to lay an egg.

    Merchandise Planning Internship

We're looking for a summer intern to assist our merchandise analysts and planners with the everyday needs of analyzing and managing day-to-day operations of both the online and brick and mortar businesses. Our planners and analysts plan and analyze stuff. They analyze things like apparel, footwear, daypacks and tents. And a lot of other stuff. I'm not going to list all of the other stuff because our team likes to keep things hidden. I often see them playing hide n' seek at the office. I'm sure my invitation to join is just lost in the mail. I never liked that game anyway.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Weekly communication, tracking, maintenance and reconciliation of apparel and gear purchase orders
  • Follow-up with vendors on past due purchase orders
  • Monitoring vendor product availability
  • Competition price tracking
  • Assisting with new store inventory and replenishment transfers
  • Weekly reporting of failed vendor inventory feeds
  • Reporting exclusions from Sell-All businesses
  • Periodic team store visits to evaluate inventory levels and assortment mix opportunities
  • Shadowing the buying and planning team to gain hands-on experience of daily responsibilities
  • Ad hoc projects to assist the team in driving sales and managing inventory
  • Clap your hands
  • Internship Requirements:
The merchandise planning intern must be focused, organized and detail oriented. Must have highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment. Must be proficient in MS Excel and should have an interest in pursuing a planner/buyer-related career. Outdoor product knowledge is preferred. This is an unpaid internship requiring a 24 - 32 hour/week commitment.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com. Please use job code MPI. According to the internet, MPI stands for a lot of things. None of which are as important as the ionic hairbrush I just bought. I don't know what ions are, but I'm sure they're something related to reducing frizz.

    Retail Marketing Internship

We're seeking two Retail Marketing interns for our marketing team based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. This summer internship involves retail and marketing. And some other stuff. I would say the two go together like peanut butter and pickles. I hope you didn't think I was going to say peanut butter and jelly. Actually I do hope you thought that and then were pleasantly surprised. Surprise.

    Responsibilities Include:
  • Help with the planning, development, implementation and tracking of retail marketing projects for new stores
  • Assist in responding to the marketing@moosejaw.com email account and driving ongoing customer interaction by responding to multiple character emails
  • Create head turning, like the best you've ever seen, store signage
  • Monitor and update the retail marketing budget. Sounds totally boring. Sorry.
  • Represent the madness in the promotion of creative and fun store events
  • The Marketing team is a lot of fun to hang out with
  • They told me to say that
  • Internship Requirements:
The retail marketing intern is responsible for assisting Moosejaw's marketing teams with developing advertising and promotion efforts. This intern must be organized and detail oriented. Must also have highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Impeccable problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment. If you can win a game of beer pong with your eyes closed, while riding a unicycle, dressed as your college mascot... I'd be impressed. But this might be a good internship for you.

The retail marketing intern must be able to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, must be proficient in MS Excel. Pursuing a degree in Marketing or a Business related field is preferred, but not required. This is an unpaid summer internship requiring a 16 -24 hour/week commitment. The schedule and length of internship is flexible.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com along with an explanation of why you think you'd be a good fit for the internship position. Please use job code RM so we know what you're applying for. Otherwise we'll pretend you're applying to be a mime and your interview will be silent picture style.

    SEO Internship

We're seeking a summer intern for our SEO/Web Team based out of our headquarters in Madison Heights, Michigan. This internship involves content writing and SEO, which you'd think stands for Started Eating Oranges, but it doesn't. The SEO intern must be organized and detail oriented. Must also have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and be able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, team environment, striking the appropriate balance between working independently and keeping supervisor informed. If you can juggle, while riding a unicycle, while dressed like a clown, you should be in a circus. But this might also be a good experience for you.

The SEO intern must be able to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities, must be proficient in MS Excel and have mad writing skills. Experience with HTML and other web development coding, as well as Google Adwords, web analytics terminology, capabilities and reporting is preferred, but not required. This is an unpaid internship requiring a 16 -24 hour/week commitment for the summer.

    How to Apply:
Email your resume to jobs@moosejaw.com. If I could read people, I'd be a physic. I would have my own booth at the fair with a shiny crystal ball. But I'm not. So please use job code SEO so we know what you're applying for.

This summer internship involves the web and writing informative and engaging copy.
