No one has time to do laundry on the mountain. I tried to bring up a washing machine once, but there was no where to plug it in. So instead, I stopped wearing synthetic base layers that stink to high heaven after one use, and started buying wool. For those of you that think of wool as the preferred uniform fabric of the civil war, here's an update: it's not itchy, it keeps you warm even when it's wet, and you can wear it around town without giving people the impression you don't care about their sensitive nasal passages.
