I purchased this bag for a number of reasons and one of the primary reasons is the mesh back. I live in Florida and ride a motorcycle everywhere for my day to day life and a regular pack would leave my back drenched with sweat....this pack does not do that, you feel a constant airflow. Second to that is...again Florida...intermittent rain showers....the bag has an awesome rain fly. Now I wouldn't trust it for extended rides in gully washers but then again you wouldn't be riding in them anyways but never fail all the times caught in the rain ( some gushers) the fly kept everything dry in the pack.I will buy Deuter again!
This is my go to bag for anything related to the city or college scene. The bag is big enough to hold my stuff and does not look like I'm a hiker. If I wanna hike then I'll bring the other guy. My Deuter Futura 38L backpack. This is the first backpack were it felt I was not carrying nothing on my back. My back easily gets sweaty and the Aircomfort Futura Back System installed on this backpack is wonderful. I just love the Aircomfort Futura Back System that Deuter installed on this backpack and cannot imagine buying another backpack that doesn't have this on. Ever since I used this backpack my back hardly gets sweaty and stays cool no matter how long I had this backpack on.
I had a Deuter AC Snow Lite which lasted me 5 years, and when I finally decided to retire it, I chose the Futura 28 which has the same features.I chose the bag mainly for it's Air Comfort Mesh suspension back system that is just sooo comfortable, even when bearing a heavy load. The suspension system distributes part of the bag's weight on the hips, and keeps the bag from getting wet with sweat. The size of the bag is just right at 28 litres, and I use it for everything from carrying my laptop around to 2-3 day oversea trips. My experience with Deuter bags are that they are durable and extremely reliable.
I finally settled on the Futura 28 and couldn't be happier. I love the suspension style and mesh backing for sweaty back prevention. The hip straps are not too bulky and seem to just keep the pack square on your back. I also love the divided main compartment. It makes organization easy, and easy to access. Integrated rain cover works great. Sinch buckles are placed nicely. And I really like the zippers, they don't get caught on flaps and seams like they do on some packs. The only thing I wish this pack had was a larger or maybe another outside, or inside, zippered compartment. Something large enough for maps, flashlight, first-aid kit, stuff like that.
This is the best pack I've owned, and I have a lot. For a quick day hike, it's perfect. It also doesn't scream "hiking bag" so it looks great around town or if you pack light, for a weekend trip out of town. The suspension system is extremely comfortable and it feels like nothing is on your back, I even took it bouldering yesterday and couldn't even notice it. Perfect amount of pockets and attachment points, but without too complicated gimmicks. It says it's rated to 18 lbs, but I have and would not hesitate again to load it to almost double that.
